Uncomfortable fire selector on TM MP5

I'm assuming the fire selector on my MP5K is identical to all the other TM MP5 fire selectors.
The problem is that when set to full auto the tip of the fire selector lever digs into my right hand at the base of my index finger.
I don't have abnormaly large hands so I'm assuming other people have noticed the same thing.
Is there a way to modify it? is it safe to fire it with the fire selector somewhere between the semi and full-auto indicators?
I did a few searches on MP5 +fire selector +safety +uncomfortable etc. and got nothing.

You could try removing the fire selector from the left side (I dont know which one is the actual fire selector with the pin but im guessing its the right one) which allows you to switch fire modes on the left side (Take a small phillips screwdriver and look underneath the fire selector switch to remove it)

You could always try and cut it but it would look abnormal.

Modify your grip, period. Easier than it seems, just learn to hold it lower than you would expect to. I found the exact same problems you speak of and learned to adapt to the grip automatically. If real world users of the MP5 series can adapt, so can you.

One thing I found to help is to increase the friction between your hand and the grip. One way being, go to any skateboard supply shop and buy a chunk of "grip tape" (coarse sandpaper laiden plastic with an adheasive backing) or to to your local CT store and buy a 14" x (can't remember) inner tube (like 1 x 7/8" or something like that) cut a chunk off the same length as you want to cover, fold inside out, and work its way onto your grip. Adding friction allows you to get the useful grip you need, no digging into your knuckle or trigger finger, and prevents you from accidentally switching to semi when you want full, and you'll live happily ever after with your MP5.

I had the exact same problems as you, thought about cutting down the selector switch on the right side, then realized I use it more with my right thumb than I do the other side with my right thumb. A lot of guns require you adapt to them, as most have quirks that are not easily fixed.

If you want to know, last year I put the grip tape on my grip and foregrip of my MP5A5, then a 6 months ago added the rubber inner tube on TOP of the grip tape on my grip. Since I added friction to my grip, I have yet to accidentally knocked the selector from full to semi because of my hand. Part fix the problem, part adapt yourself to your gun. Pretty simple if you use it enough and pay attention. I still find myself on patrol, ready for the shit to start, I'll touch the selector to make sure it's in full. Guess I learned early on to check it every once in a while, but since I modded my gun, each time I check I am still in full auto. To fire semi I just pop it over and there ya go, but semi doesn't get in the way the same. For the most part I put it on full and use trigger control to fire a burst of BBs, or single shots. Easy enough, just training is all. Full auto single shots is REAL easy with AEGs.

Problem being, if you simply remove the right side of the selector switch, you effectively remove ANY selection at all, including safe. The right side part of the selector has the rod that runs through the mechbox, the left side has the selector shaped "cap" that screws into the rod from the other side. Not as easy as you assume, and useless if done. Best to learn to hold the grip lower and everything is 100% after that. MP5 may seem like a pistol, but shouldn't be held like one (or any other subgun/assault rifle) for that matter.

I know for sure that I can't resist firing a stock MP5K like a pistol. I've seen The Matrix way too many times.

I thought of that then realzed it was much less effort to learn to hold the gun properly. Added benefit, I learned to switch th eselector with my right thumb on the right side (as mentioned!) Go figure!
