King Arms or Guarder Wood Kit for TM AK47

Hey am thinking of upgrading my AK Stock ver to real wood. Although you cant go wrong with Guarder stuff, I think its damn ex, compared to the King Arms wood kit, which is half the price. Anybody has the KA wood kit and is it good? Or what other decent wood kits are there?

Get the G&P kit (model # GP363)...it comes with a metal frnt end and metal retainers, as well as the fact the buttplate screws on (it sont get lost). Not quite as nice as the Guardeer kit, but cheaper and with metal bits too. I have one on my AK - easy as pie to fit, and the entire operation took me less than an hour (which includes basically taking the whole gun apart down to the mechbox).

Mine was $260 + shipping from Tru.

Thanks Skru will seriously consider.

One hour is pretty long... I bet most of the time was dedicated to installing the metal receiver. because Ive tried disassembling and reassembling all the grips and stock on my stock AK and after some trial and error, can do it pretty fast.

Any modification required to install the receiver btw?

The wood kits don't come with a receiver, just the trunnion or "front end". A metal receiver will run you anywhere from $100 to $200 depending on the manufacturer, but if you go Guarder you need to buy a complete kit to get it. Their cheapest kit that includes a steel receiver is over $400 USD from Hong Kong. Very pricey, but you will have the best AK bar none. Guarder gives lotsa lovin to AK aficionados.

If you're just going for the wood kit, as Skru said the G&P is a good deal. Be advised though the trunnion doesn't mate well with certain metal receivers (DTP comes to mind), and mine at least required fitting and took over an hour with sandpaper and a dremel to get assembled properly. I didn't have wood on mine.

ok I was referring to the front end as the front receiver.

Btw wood is wood, why the huge different in pricing between some wood kits? Is laminated or what-have-you wood more costly? Or is the wood different quality?

Wood certainly isn't just wood. There are thousands of species of tree, each with its own unique characteristics. The difference in a grip made of generic Chinese softwood versus one made with Pau Ferro will be obvious. I can't comment with any authority on wood kits because I've never had the pleasure of owning one, but generally the Guarder ones are regarded as the best.

On mine, the machining/routing of the wood parts was a little more juvenile than a Guarder kit. Definitely not as nicely finished on the inside. I mounted mine on a Classic Army metal body and it fit like a dream EXCEPT the post that allows the rear site to lift - it took me a few minutes with a dremel to polish it down enough to slide the pin through. The paint coating made the hole too small for the pin to fit through LOL.

i really like the look of the King Arms wood kit. Some how it the appearance is tanner than the G&P and Guarder ones, very appealing and cheap too. But I also might go for the G&P thanks for the help/
