Rain effects on an AEG

Just a couple quick question concerning natures effects on an AEG.

Does rain rust an AEG gearbox, cause problems for a barrel, erode a hop up bucking... Just covering any areas of conern.

Just throw out anything that is missed.

I am just wondering for what I would have to clean out in an AEG after a rain gun fight.

Rain doesn't usually do anything to my AEGs. I've played in heavy rain many times, never had any serious problems. One of my AKs ended up in ice cold water once. Worked fine after I pulled it out. Only thing I can remember about is problem with hopup unit after water got in there. Hopup effect pretty much dissapeared for a while. I'm pretty sure if enough water gets into the mechbox through the barrel you might have problems, but other than that it should be fine.
After a game in the rain I usually take the gun apart, remove the box, wipe all water off and oil metal parts. That's about it. I don't even touch the box itself since I'm yet to see any rust on it.

i dont think it would do much to the gear box as much as the effects on the battery, i mean causeing shortage or something, i havnt actually played in rain but i've had a smoaking battery that was because of fualty wiring ending up in shorting the battery. well water is less likey to reach the battery but possible...

The gearbox wouldn't rust, seeing as how it has no iron content. Pretty much all gearboxes are made of some zinc-aluminum composite.

The only iron/steel parts found on a stock Tokyo Marui gun are some CNC'ed metal bushings - ie Guarder and the screws found throughout the gun.

Besides that, there isn't much else that can rust. Some aftermarket companies (or other gun companies) have higher iron content in the components, such as Guarder steel outer barrels or G&G guns. The coating should protect them, but there's still the possibility of external oxidation.

Springs will rust and turn a nice bright orange, especially on Classic Army guns. I know from experience.

After a rain game, despite the fact you dread the task and really, really don't want to do it, strip your gun down and clean it. Remove any trace of moisture on any part you believe to be steel. If your gearbox is properly lubed it should be adequately protected against moisture, so opening it is up to you.

After The Great Raid I took my M15A4 down and found rust forming on the carry handle screws and nuts. It wiped off easily. After Prairie Wind my SAR M41FS had some minor surface rust on the takedown pins which was a bit more difficult to clean off.

The absolute worst thing you could possibly do is keep your gun in a bag or case for anything longer than the trip home. Make absolutely sure it's not sitting in a case of any sort for at least a day so any lingering moisture can evaporate. Beyond that you should be fine. Most airsoft rust problems are strictly aesthetic.

I've seen oxide form on some gun parts from playing in the rain, I recall it being an SG1, and I know of a couple others that had white build up on come parts like front sight assembly and whatnot.

I have seen barrels wtih water marks on them and turning a dark green on them.

Clean the barrel good inside and out.

I have also seen some parts get a bit more dirty then others. but nothing that a good cleaning can't cure.

I got my flashhider rusting up a bit. Gotta stab more people to clean it off.

My only problem during heavy rains are my batteries.. other than that.. I'm good!
