Seriously.

It's a recipie for disaster.

You're talking about $300 in highly upgraded parts with very tight tolerances. if any one little thing is reassembled out of spec, you're going to have gun that's as good as a paperweight, and need a few hundred bucks more to repair it.

Illusion gave you the best advice - due to your lack of experience, get a professionally pre-built mechbox. It's been assembled in Japan with very high quality control. I would bet my next paycheque that a Systema-built mechbox will outlast a similar one that you can build.
I don't disagree with the fact that they have very high quality gearboxes, but if I'm going to be using the SAME gearbox that they use in the M150 pre-built gearboxes and I'm going to be using the best gears money can buy. Also some of the best bushings, highest torque piston that I could find which is also reliable. Good piston head. I'll be using the same motor and I'll have a much better MOSFET considering systema mosfet's are pretty crappy. The only thing that that gearbox has that I wont is an upgraded cylinder set. So I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm just confused as to why you guys say that the systema set-up will last and mine wont. Also IF I were to build my gearbox from scratch my friend and I would both be doing it together who has been airsofting and upgrading gearboxes for over 5 years and completely knows what he is doing.

I can build a car with the best parts money can buy. Do you want to bet it won't be anywhere near a Ferrari, even if I spent more than the cost of the Ferrari?

Buy it pre-built, or buy a PTW. Anything else is a waste of your time and money. But it's your time and money.

You asked, we all answered.

from what iv heard its actually not very hard to build a car faster than a ferrari. but once again you don't build the engine in your garage you get a professional tuning company to do it. any employee in systema has been building them day in, day out probably for a couple years, and if i broke easily they wouldn't be in business. just my two cents.

GET A SYSTEMA!!! systemas you buy a 120 dollar cylinder set and boom, your shooting 500 fps and max torque would be a definite must for something shooting that hard and you would also want a systema High torque motor

no seriously, these people has built how many at systema plant and went through QC....you cannot go wrong....I would understand if it would be a different gun variant alltogether, but this is not the case....again, get a prebuilt systema from Japan and enjoy your lexus...

I encourage you to build your own MB. I know it would be easier, probably cheaper, and more reliable to use a drop-in systema MB but there are some things you wont get by doing this. And, I'm not sure if skruface was just trying to scare you but if you box blows up you wont have to replace everything. You might need to replace your gears (because you cant buy PRO gears separately), a few pistons or what not but not $300 and not in one sitting. The gears you are talking about kick ass, i have the exact ones, I just cant say much for them if you use a magnum motor (no XP). I heard a lot of the same discouragement before I built my MB, especially when I said I was going to use helical gears. The pro TT gears are helical and you will need to spend extra time shimming. My friend and I spent 6+ hours shimming my AEG.

Custom parts: of course you get to choose yours, but some of systema parts are not the best. If you have to crack it open and replace things then a drop-in MB begins to be redundant, especially if you are going to replace the wiring (you'll have to remove everything to get to it). There are others that make batter pistons (deep fire and G&P). Systema 500FPS MB use helical gears that will only take half tooth pistons. This really limits your choices. The Systema MB would be the easy answer the the difference in performance will be marginal at best. If you want reliability choose the systema MB.

Learning experience: this one can totally change your perspective on airsoft and make you a more valuable player to your team, not to mention save a lot of money. I'm not saying you're going to get it right first time around. I'm not even saying you'll ever get it right, but chances are if you ask for help and don't give up you'll be able to work around your MB. This is probably the only great thing about the ver2 MB. There are a great MB to learn on. I rebuilt my ver2 over the summer and it turned out "alright." The drop-in MB would have been a lot easier and a hellava quicker but I wouldn't know anything about my MB. Now I feel confident working on my MB and I even help my friends.

I have heard mixed feeling about the bore-up kits, some say they do nothing for actual performance and some say the bigger diameter cylinder increases the volume of air thus... I wouldn't buy a systema MB because of these parts. The following link includes some FPS reading when type 0 and other size cylinders with different barrel lengths are used. The barrels used are 6.05mm TBBs.

You also might want to try an air brake or/and a cushioned cylinder head instead of a systema or angel silent head. the angel head work of these principles but they use a totally different design. These mods are cheap, and they will decrease MB ware and noise.
sorry for the long links
