ICS M4 Upgrade Questions
Hey guys, me again.
Now, before anything, I DONT have an ICS M4, but I might consider getting one in the future (fairly far future). So, the questions: 1) Would a ProWin 8mm gearbox drop right in since the design is a 2 peice gearbox already with spliting receiver, or would there still be a fair amount of grinding to get it right? 2) Where can you get different upper and lower receivers for it? Or would any common one fit? Since the gearbox splits, and the receivers hinge open as upposed to sliding open, I would think not, but you never know. Any info would be koolio. Thanks! Justin

1) There's a fair amount of grinding for any metal body to make it fit I hear.
2) You can get them from a lot of American/overseas retailers. It's just the mechbox so getting them into the country is not an issue.

Hey
What do you mean by its just the mechbox so its easy? As far as I know, I thought some receivers were prohibited? And its not he mechbox itself Im talking about, I mean the outer body, lower or upper, that fit the ICS, its not the same design as a TM or CA. Justin

you can order uppers and the upper mechbox, can't remember the site, but someone will I'm sure. You can build multiple uppers and swap them out for different roles.

Sorry, read that second one wrong. You'd have to get age verified and ask one of the guys who brings guns in to do it for you in all likelihood. Why do you need spare receivers though? Most people maybe have a spare upper that they use so they can switch FPS on the fly but not entire receivers.

Hey
Okay, yeah, I know about gettin spares and swapping them out, you can find them on the ICS website and stuff, what Im talking about has nothing to do with the mechbox itself, just the upper and lower receivers. What I wanna know is if you can buy aftermarket ones, like say a VLTOR MUR upper, or a SR15 lower, etc. etc. Justin

I have a question; Why would you want to buy an ICS and destroy its unique feature? (2 pieces gearbox that make it easily upgradable).
I have never seen a upper receiver that was not made by ICS that would fit their m4 (i might be wrong) BTW; I did owned a ICS m4 and loved it... HAd to sell it because of financial difficulty

Hey
OMG! Okay, I dont want to stick some random body on there and take away the 2 peice design! I just wanted to know if there are DIFFERENT RECEIVERS! As in, is there a VLTOR MUR type receiver out there made for the ICS M4? Thats what Im asking here, Im not asking where to get other mechbox's, or other receiver kits that are made for like a TM or CA and take away the function of the ICS, just receivers for ICS M4's. But it doesnt seem like enough people own one or there just isnt any others available other then stock. Thanks. Justin

i think ics receivers are a bit longer to accommodate the 2 pieces mechbox, so as far as i know, no other receivers will work with it other then ics.

I own an ICS, and as far as I have seen there are no other receivers that are made. If you ever do come across any let me know.

You could always try looking for those rare ICS receivers that have colt trades on them. Other than that I don't think there is any other choices. I have heard aftermarket receivers being modified to take ICS gearboxes. Normal gearboxes fit in the ICS, but ICS gearboxes don't fit in standard receivers for V2's. Why? Because the upper gearbox dimensions are larger than tops of standard V2's. Are you just looking at ICS receivers because of only needing to remove one pin to open it partially? If so you can probably mod regular receivers to do the same thing by removing the tracks or whatever that causes you to need to slide and lift.

I'm a proud owner of an ICS C-15 fix stock which has been coverted to an C8. From my experience on the ICS products that few items for TM,CA or other brands will work on ICS themselves. I have tried using an aftermarket parts but had to rely on ICS parts which work just fine, provided you have an supplier of ICS parts. I have to agree with other's comments regarding the main body, I do not think you can use other brands of bodies to work on ICS unless you hack away at them to make it work. Besides that, why would you consider doing so when ICS work's so damn well on it's own accord. Hope this helps. Now then, off to my beans and beer! cheers:wink:

I got to say that I'm quite keen on getting another reciever for the ICS M4 I'm buying soon too.
As to the reason why, I want a black reciever that is not sprayed and still let me use the fantastic split gearbox. |

to answer the question: NO, no one makes vultor or fn or bushmaster or any other recievers for the ICS M4, yes it kinda sucks but it allready comes with a kick ass metal one so why would you want to spend another $200+ on something that does the same job but has "better" trades or "looks cooler"
just my .02
