I have a TM VSR and on the front of the stock there is, what looks like a nub, of which can either accomidate a sling swivel or bipod.
Is there anything left on the front end of your rifle? Pictures would help.

Kidding but could be a good idea.
Though, personaly i would never let anyone try to beat me.
Anyway, as other said, a lock on your gun case is a good idea.
And why did you go in a back alley? To save time? Anyway.

I googled for a front bipod rail, but didn't found any :/ Altought, there bipod that attach to the rilfe cannon.
as self defense, i carry a 1200 lumen flashlight with me almost always. in the case that something does go wrong, you hit their eyes with that; then you can get a few hits in, or run away before they recover enough to react.
in general, having a knife with you = bad.

Why not just say "HEY! look over there!" and then run?

Hahaha, actually, I never thought of a flashlight. You never think of blinding somebody with a completely harmless tool. Very creative. Umm, there really isn't any damage, Muffin. The only thing is that the front rail snapped in half, and the sling hoop got ripped out of it's hole, which I couldn't find when I was picking up parts. So basically, the stock is totally fine, it's just a few accessories that I have to buy again.

I have the rail from mine which I don't intend to use anymore. I could probably mail it to you if you'd like. PM I suppose, and pardon me if this is against the rules. Just let me know and I'll delete the post.
