The noobiest Question ever

On m4's and m16's are the guns actually supposed to be carried by the carrying handle? or is it just called that? Will the handle be able to support the weight?
thanks

You can carry it by the handle if you want, it just isn't the most practical when in a firefight... :P

I carry mine by the carry handle all the time, and I have a bunch of extras mounted on my gun.

Unless it's a Marui or similar plastic-bodied gun. Some newer ones have a metal tab to reinforce the plastic one, but those with only the plastic tabs will not last long if carried by the handle, especially if you have alot of crap on the front end.

So if I were to install a full metal receiver and outer barrel, add on a nice RIS system
with flashlight/battery housing-Long style M203 launcher, lazer sight, MP7 (T7 style),
barrel extender and 30mm suppressor, powered C-mag and possibly a kitchen sink;

A plastic carry handle probably shouldn't be used?

That would probably be fine. He's talking about a plastic receiver.

As stated, a plastic carry handle should be ok. But if you're going to install a full metal receiver, outer barrel, a good RIS and all that other stuff then why on earth would you use a plastic carry handle? You can get a metal one for like $20.

I have had my share of M4's and M16's.....I have used the "flat-tops" and the standard versions equaly and I will say this:
Not once have I used the carry handle on the M series. I use a sling.
An armorer had once said to me that the carry handle is for more the rear sights placement than anything else.
I am sure you have seen many war movies that show our heros running with an M16 and holding it by the carry handle. As a former Cav Scout with the US Army, NO ONE runs with thier weapon in that way. It is either in the ready possition, slung or in a semi-ready possition.

And in the game of airsoft, 99 % of the time you will se weapons slung or in use. Just get a good comabt sling and attach it to your web gear or tac vest.

If you knew what was holding that top rail on the upper you wouldn't put much faith in it.
