p226 gutting/cleaning

Ok I've used my sig for many games and I have now decided I want to clean it.

Can some one show me a step by step way how to strip out all the internals, cause looking at the Diagram is kinda confusing.

plus I may want to put a FMU kit onto it sometime in the future.

Wow there's not a lot of parts in there!

I've never owned one of these things... so any advice I could give you would most likely be very wrong

Drop the mag, pull the slide all the way back and release. There's a small lever on the left side above the trigger. Swivel it down, then slide the slide off forward. You should be able to push the barrel ahead from below and wiggle it out. That's as far as you need to go to strip it to clean it. You should be able to google a field strip for a real Sig 226 as it comes apart the same way.

what I would suggest is do it little by little and try to memorize it, it works for me at least.

Start small and take apart a tiny part of the gun, then, but it back together. Then take that apart again and do a little further. Put that all back together and keep repeating the process untill you know the gun like the back of your hand.

I've used this process for a lot of things from computers to power tools.

To do what? That's as far as you need to go to clean it. Use a tissue or clean rag and wipe the gunk out. Use some duster to get inbetween the springs and such. Wipe out the inner barrel with the cleaning rod and a tissue or bore wipe with some pure silicone oil. Wipe down the outer barrel and inside of the slide. A drop or two of pure silicone oil on the moving parts and reassemble. Done. There is no need to disassemble the pistol beyond that unless you are upgrading some springs or replacing damaged parts.

Ulness you've got the proper punches and the like, I would not recommend disassembling the lower. If you want to put an FMU on it, wait until you have it to take it all apart. Taking apart a plastic pistol will cause a lot more wear and tear than its real world counterpart. Like I said, unless you're fixing or replacing, leave it alone.
