Hey guys,

Was at the Toronto Sportsmen Show last weekend and saw the Mach1 booth. I saw the guns on the wall and even got my hands on one to check out. They seemed so realistic and soo damn cool. Now for years (except that last couple) I have been playing paintball so I am not new to this kind of sport but I would like to try airsoft but it sure seems easier to get into paintball than airsoft. I am having a hard time finding information on fields in the Toronto area that host airsoft. There is the listing of fields on this site but they all reference paintball fields and say nothing about renting airsoft equipment and being a walkon in an airsoft game. I just want to try it out and see what it is like. The things that appeal to me about it, besides the super cool guns, is the sense that there is more realism, strategy and the need for honesty in the game.

So whats a guy like me to do to just see first hand what a game is like?

If you are over 18, you can get age verified and gain access to the classified, which is a LOT of guns for sale. Toronto is pretty much the main airsoft place in Canada IMO, so I'm sure there are tons of fields, and tons of guys that can point one out to you. Good luck!

Well, you're at the right place.

The fact that a lot of the airsoft fields are primarily paintball fields is correct, since both are shooting sports that require an isolated, closed (from non-playing people) area to play.

There are a few other around though, like TTAC3 for CQB.

Best thing to do is go out to a game and see what's up firsthand. Take a look at what some of the guys use as guns/setups and figure out what's best for you from that point. There's usually an AV rep on site, so you can get age verified (if you're over 18).

That should be enough to get you rolling. That may seem like a lot of information but you don't have to read it all at once, however down the road it will definitely become useful to you. We also have a FAQ section as well if you have any more questions that require answers.

Someone who doesn't want to buy "crap" for once and actually *wants* to rent.

Brian at TTAC3 will get you squared up with AV and rentals. Most of the time paintball fields don't have rentals available and they are usually done in private between private parties, just ask if anyone has a loaner or rental and you might be able to borrow or rent it for like $20-30 for the day.

well aren't you all a happy little bunch. I don't mind all the reading. I can start that tonight. I did find out online about TTAC3. I live fairly close to them so I was already thinking of checking them out. They are up on Dupont if I remember correctly.

Once I get some reading done and age verification accomplished I will just have to read the forums and find out where to see a game in action and talk to those people.

Firstly, TTAC3 is VERY VERY VERY accepting of new players.

Secondly, do not hesitate to come out to a game, http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthr...ighlight=ttac3

All you need to bring is eye protection (I recommend paintball goggles. Ballistic goggles are accepted, but full face protection is really a must if you enjoy your teeth.) and $40. ($20 for the game fee, and $20 for a rental gun, mags, and BB's for the night).

Brian McIlmoyle will be able to age verify you. So bring two pieces of ID, one with your picture on it. Also bring a piece of paper with your ASC name on it, clearly written.

Also, be 18 years old or over.

Do all of the above and you'll be in the world of airsoft.

Well I started my reading and there were a few posts in the Canadian Law section that I wanted to add to but couldn't since it is closed. I am also a hunter and have my PAL. There were some questions on firearm transportation and storage. This is what I know:

-You can have your firearm laying in the back seat as long as you can 1) secure the vehicle, 2) keep it out of site, 3) have your firearm unloaded.


-If it isn't in a locked container than you must 1) use a trigger lock, 2) or use a cable lock, 3) or remove firing device

-If the vehicle is going to be left unattended then you should also do one of the following 1) use a trigger lock, 2) use a cable lock, 3) remove firing device and store separately and in a locked container.

-Storing your firearm you must do one of the following 1) use a trigger lock 2) lock the firearm in a secure container or room that cannot be easily be broken in to 3) store ammunition separately or in the same locked container as the firearm

If you use a soft case you must always use a trigger/cable lock or remove the firing mechanism.

On a side note I can drive around in my truck with an unloaded firearm as long as I am in a remote wildernes area

In the thread 'A Big Ol' Airsoft Q&A' by HonestJohn written in 2008, http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=51609 , pretty much makes it clear that airsoft is illegal but is an unenforced law.

However In the thread 'Airsoft and Canadian Law - Important Readme for New Folks' has a reply written by RecceGod in 2006 , http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=23034 , RecceGod shows a part of the Criminal Code and Weapons Act which states that certain weapons deemed not to be firearms include
(d) any other barrelled weapon, where it is proved that the weapon is not designed or adapted to discharge(i) a shot, bullet or other projectile at a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second or at a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules, or(ii) a shot, bullet or other projectile that is designed or adapted to attain a velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second or an energy exceeding 5.7 Joules.

So if an airsoft firearm fits within these requirements then it it isn't a firearm and therefore cannot be called a replica firearm , right?

The legalities of airsoft seem to be stuck in some sort of pardoxial grey area.

Styrak, since you are retailer then I take your word for it and I am just confused even more.

Have the laws changed since when these posts I mentioned were posted? Or am I just really confused?
