Cost of upgraded sniper rifle
People always say that an upgraded sniper rifle will cost you an arm and a leg, and it is far more economical to go for AEG.
But I don't see an upgraded sniper rifle any more, if not a lot less, than an upgraded AEG. I see a lot of AEG ads in the classifieds that are fully pimped with upgraded internals and metal/steel external upgrades and whatnot going for well beyond the 1k mark. I have yet to see an upgraded sniper rifle (those usual spring/cylinder upgrades and optics and such) even reaching the 1k mark. Hell there are even a lot of fully pimped GBB pistols doing ~1.2k. If anything, I think the full cost to complete upgrade for a sniper is the cheapest of the bunch. Is it just a deterrent for newbies to stay away from snipers? Or is it that the parts for a sniper upgrade are relatively more expensive than similar parts on other platforms (albeit less total cost for the sniper in the end)? Not looking to take on the sniper role here. Just bored and wonderin' is all. |

Mine has cost over 1800$ so far. You do the math.
Its all about how far you want to go, and how serious you are. Mine is all PDI internals, top of the notch, Everything is upgraded except for the Stock, outer barrel, and receiver. |

Range: $3k Bolt Rifle > GBBR > AEG = Stock Bolt Rifle
Rate of Fire: AEG > GBBR > 3k Bolt Rifle > Stock Bolt Rifle The above is pretty generalized, but that's the basic info. Queue Amos and the $3k sniper rifle speech. |

It's more expensive for what you get. The most pimped out Sniper rifle will only out range a decent AEG slightly, Much of this is countered by volume of fire though. So for a 400$ AEG you can probably hit the same target just with 4 shots in a burst instead of one well placed one.

I see that people sometimes do unnecessary external and accessories upgrades, for all platforms.
So let me rephrase the question: Is the cost to bare gaming-reliable upgrades for sniper rifles more than the cost of those on AEGs? My estimate is that after those upgrades, a sniper would reach the 700-800 mark (this is just taking examples from a few ads in the classifieds since I've no experience with sniper rifles), and a G&P M4 would be around 800-900 (since the stock full metal M4 is already pretty damn expensive). That doesn't look too far apart. |

700-800 is really cutting it short for a bolt action...
Take for example a CA M24, one of the stapples of BA riffles: Gun 450-600 Internals 400-500 (cylender assembly swap, zero trigger, spring, tight bore et al) Externals 200-300 (decent scope, bipod, sling et al) So you're looking at 1000 to 1400 pretty fast, and that includes nothing fancy. Mags are also a bitch to find. |

My Killer studio APS2 with a complete PDI set up cost well over $2800 new,
it comes with 3 seperate cylinder kit, matched springs, trigger assembly and barrels plus on top of the rifle cost add on the price of bipod and scope. Well over the 3k mark |

My VSR-10 is up to about 1200$, and that's only full internal upgrades.
A fully upgraded (but outside stock) AEG will cost you about the same with all your mags and batteries. However it's significantly more difficult to snipe than it is to be a rifleman. |

No, lets not ask me how much I spent on my VSR..
Lets just say I could have bought 2 real Remington 700's for that much. |

Only 5% TM left on my VSR the rest are PDI from Palsonite VC Premiere Bore up cylinder kit, 6.01mm 554 inner barrel, Bore up reciever, Bore up V-Trigger, Bull Barrel Flutted, Bull barrel cap, Bull barrel base, Bi-pod base, Scope rail and ~12 Barrel spacers. Others: PSS10 hop chamber, Laylax PSS10 Bolt handle, 5 mags, Harris Bipod, NCStar P4 Scope and Eagle Shooter Stock pack. Honestly I dont know how much I spent with this project. Never had the chance to tally it up.

The thing is, to upgrade an AEG to a really nice competant gun you're looking at a tightbore, maybe a spring, piston, piston head, nozzel, hop-up, a re-shim and re-grease, and maybe a few other parts. All that will cost you less than $200 and you'll have a very good gun.
To upgrade a sniper rifle to a really nice competant, consistent gun, the parts you're looking at are FAR more expensive... in the ballpark of $1,000.

I must have less than $1000 invested into my CA M24, it shoots fine, I just learned to shoot it really freaking well. Sniper rifles themselves are expensive for a quality platform, then the real expenses come in as far as parts go.

Wouldn't the stock shoot faster than the upped bolt? The stock is probably running around 350-400fps, but the 3k one is probably up around 550-600?
