Spur Gear
Hey guys, I opened up my V2 mechbox for the first time and i noticed that one of the teeth on the spur gear was chipped off. Is that really bad? Should i buy a new spur gear?
If I do have to replace it, which one shall I get? Im a complete newb with internals |

The most prudent course of action would be to replace the gear before it causes a mechbox failure down the road. Replace the gear with whatever brand the other gears are to ensure appropriate brand fitment.

Prometheus is the best company for internals hands fucking down, they are worth every extra penny over any other part manufacturer(internals anyways) out there if you have the money...buy them.

from my experience with G&P stuff, and the testaments from some other people who have used them; I'll never touch any G&P internals besides their motors again.
For sub 400fps, as long as you install them properly I think KA will probably be fine; or look for a modify (non-modular) set. |

Hey guys, I was looking over some of the gear sets that King Arms offer. What is the difference between:
1. Flat versus helical gear sets? 2. Normal torque vs high torque? Which one would be more suitable/durable for my M4? |

depends on m4 setup.
High torque have higher ratio, as in the number of times the bevel gear rotates per 1 sector gear rotation, thus, higher ratio gears are easier to turn, and you can pull heavier springs with the same motor, but you lose ROF. Helical gears have less noise, and run smoother when installed correctly than flat teeth (think of 1st gear in a car (helical) and reverse (flat cut)) downside is that they're a bitch to shim, and you won't find many helical sets that aren't high torque. Under 400 fps, pretty much anything except high speed or uber high speed is fine, if you go below 350, you can use high speed sets. (well you can use high speed set any time, just not recommended.) Conclusion: depends on the ROF, FPS, noise level, and ease of assembly you want. |

Flat gears are what they sound like they're "flat" they go up and down like you would expect a regular gear to be (ie. like the gears on a bicycle).
Helical gears on the other hand are "helical" or "angled" like in this picture: http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/gear-helical1.jpg They will make your mechbox quieter and "mesh" better if you shim it right. As for the "torque ratios" normal is what you expect, they're normal (I don't have the ratios off hand but basically they provide "normal" amounts of torque). So I guess you can think of it as, high speed gears (high speed for high ROF but will not have enough torque to pull back a stronger spring), "normal" gears that provide normal ROF and normal amounts of torque, and high torque gears that provide high torque but low speed. (Note I use "normal", "high", and "low" in a very loose context to illustrate the idea, IIRC Systema or something makes this "high speed and high torque" gearset (possibly motor) I was looking at it last year but I forget what the deal was with it.

So right now, i have a stock CA gear box with stock CA internal components. I just need something temporily since my bevel gear lost a tooth. Next year, Ill be upgrading to prometheus components with prometheus gears, so Im just looking for a temporily solution now. The reason why im not doing my full prometheus upgrade now is because i dont have money. Anyways, im planning to get this gear set:
King Arms Normal Torque Flat Gear Set (KA-02-01) http://www.kingarms.com/productpage.asp?prodid=1658 Will these do it? will these be sufficient? Im not looking for anything crazy. |
