So far I've spent over $1200 this month and I still need goggles, boots and gloves. On the note of goggles does anyone know the specifications required for Panther Field in Surrey BC? I'd much rather wear sunglass style, but apparently we can't because it's insured for paintball.

well what you spend to start is all in the players eyes. I to spend a bunch right off the get goo but don't think I really needed to (although I would have and keep buying stuff lol)

Gun
goggles
Boots
mags
something carry the mags
BB's

is all you REALLY need to start off IMO

full camo, vest, side arm and all the other nice little extras are nice to have but not really needed for you first few games

I dumped $280 into my gun then hit the back yard, got an extra mag and plinked with a friend. That was fall 2008 but in spring 09 I grabbed a Molle vest and mid-cap mags, upgraded my weapon (tight/narrow barrel, m100 spring and all plastic in gearbox, extended inner into suppresor) and bought a mark III mosfet. This spring I grabbed lipo and super-smart-charger along with flektarn and a m110 spring. So thats like $1200 or so, but thats nothing compaired to what it cost to get my gear for my band.... Money pit that jams once a week!

so far I'm pushing $1000, my AEG was 750 and mags were almost 100 plus my upgrade spring and my boots. I've still got another $200 worth of stuff needed (mask, BDU, vest)

Oh dear, $1200 was about what I paid for my first two airsoft guns (TM M4/KSC G18) before any gear, batts or mags. However that was a different time and pricing was nothing like it is today.

Why dont you give Panther PB a call and ask them yourself whether or not full face protection is required. (604) 533-0890

I spent about 430 bucks on my gun then bought a red dot for about 60 bucks then a silencer for 40 bucks.. I bought some ris rail covers for 20 bucks. I orig bough 2 high cap d-boy mags for 30 bucks which gave me 3 high caps but then i decided i wanted to go with 90 round low caps so i bought 8 of those for 100.. A bag of bb's for 15 bucks. IBH helmet for 55 and a flash light for about 10 bucks from canadian tire and a mount for 20. I bought a black top that was 45 bucks then 2 pair of camo pants Marpat woodlands and Multicam those were about 60 bucks a pop each. My vest and boots i got in the states on a great deal plus a coupon which prob would have ran me over 100 but i got them for 50 bucks that was a steal. I bought gloves for about 20 bucks and to sets of goggles. 1 paintpallg rade for cqb or when ever it is needed 40 bucks and a pair of ESS 60 bucks. Knee pads for 20 bucks. I also got a balaclava and a shemagh the blala was 10 bucks and the shem was 20 bucks.. so in total i have spent 1145 bucks...

first time playing in Canada I spent around $1200 just for gear
Black Hawk cross draw vest
Black Hawk Tac belt
Black Hawk Black Nomex Balaclava
Magnum Swat Boots
Marine Jungle issue Boots
Black Hawk Nomex gloves
JT Spectra Thermal (Very new back in 87)
Den Trinity Tac Helmet
Tiger stripe BDU and Woodland BDU set from creative surplus
1st gen Camel back

You can probably get the same stuff cheaper now but back in 87 some of these stuff are hard to comeby

What you need to get "Started" (I say this because you never finish)

Gun ~500-600 for a solid TM or CA
Goggles ~20-25 for pb goggles
Boots ~100-150 for a GOOD pair

From there, I reccomend
5-6 Magazines ~100 (Low-Midcaps)
Vest to carry em in ~50-150
BDU's ~50-150 (Depending on pattern/used/surplus etc)

Ur probobly looking around 1k budget to get a solid start.

You could cheap out by getting clones, but really... all it takes is one breakdown, and the labour + parts costs will probobly set you back enough that it would have been much cheaper to pay the extra 100-150 for a solid gun to begin with.

Kit its not soo bad, Boots you should always get a high quality pair, but vest bdu's arnt as important safety wise.

Everything else after that is just Extras.

I play at panther as well, and the goggle specifications are they have to be paintball approved goggles, and a full seal. I recommend the JT series, which is what 80% of Op-for uses. The reason they don't allow things like ballistic goggles is because it isn't covered by their insurance since it is a paintball field.

I have the spectre series (Proflex I think) and with dual fog lenses, they haven't fogged once. Of course, you don't have to buy them from this website, just a picture reference. I got mine from Panthers store in Downtown langley. I believe it was $50 for the mask (you can strip it down to just the goggles) and $15-30 for the dual fog lenses. I also bought some anti-fog spray, but haven't needed to use it much.

As for gear, I'm probably at...500 ish. Still buying more though...it never ends

Full face isn't required, it's a personal choice here. Some wear them just to cover their face and teeth, while others don't to have a nice cheek weld (right name?) and just keep their mouth shut when in a firefight.

This. Don't go clone, believe me. I learned the hard way, and now my AEG is in peices

Set aside about 1k, like others said. That should get you a solid start. But even before that, if you havent already, head out to a Op-for, or BCAC game, and rent. It'll give you a good idea whether or not you really want to get into this awesome, yet wallet hurting sport.
