Different game type ideas.
I wasn't 100% sure where the proper section for this would be, so I figured here would be appropriate.
Anyways, I just recently got into airsoft (originally solely a paintball player) so the whole "deathmatch" deal is all the same to me, and I know others have expressed doing something more, as just going out and shooting at people gets old quick. We have a few fields, an Urban Tac Town, a lightly wooded "Shanty Town", an attack and defend field, and a more wooded area. If anyone has any suggestions on game types you use at your fields to spice things up and break the monotony, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

I have to agree with you. I have been to a few games where all everyone does is run up take cover and the fire just goes back and forth and the game doesnt progress. Its really boring. |

we could make some props and start doing more scenarios instead of just the team death match thing.
I would be open to anything new |

I had been toying with the idea of a Left4Dead themed game. Same basic story but no "special" infected, just plain old running zombies.
1- survivor players will only start off with their secondary pistols, maxed out. Their primaries will be taken by the host and hidden randomly through out the play area. 2- zombies require 3 consecutive hits for death. Other wise, they can retreat and stay put for 10 seconds to heal back up to take another 3 hits. 3- survivors must stay alive for 5mins till rescue arrives. I have more details if anyone would be interested in this idea. I was thinking this scenario up with CQB Toronto in mind.

simple is better
often the simplest game is the best..
Real military objectives are simple and clear cut.. Such as Advance to and seize and hold specific points. If you want a more skirmish type game the key is to configure a game that keeps everyone engaged and promotes teamwork. I have a couple of games I use at TTAC3 that are good for this. They can translate to outdoor venues pretty well .. particularly paintball field type venues. Game 1 - Red VS Blue -- 2 teams start out with equal numbers .. 2 spawn points established a opposite ends of the field. Every time you are hit you respawn on the other team.. game continues until there is only one team left. Game 2. Bunneh push -- this is essentially Football with airsoft guns.. instead of tackling .. you shoot the opposition. The object of the game is to push the object( ball, case, bag, or in our case stuffed bunneh ) to the opposing teams spawn in order to score. unlimited respawns for the teams .. Game continues until an agreed number of points are scored .. teams should switch ends after each point.

VIP (remember CS) One Team protect the VIP and take it to the extraction Zone and the other kill the VIP. VIP may be armed or not... usually we give him a pistol so he dont go rambo by himself :P

avoid games where players bottleneck, makes for many many dead players who are scared to go through the bottleneck later in the day. The Stargate game in 05 ran into this problem, where the command team for the "Earth" side had to hunt around a 5,000sqft building looking for soldiers who were hiding in the various rooms, just so the would be spared another BB Bukkakee death from the team of "aliens" on the other side of the gate.
Gotta say it was damn funny to watch though

Ambush scenarios are always fun if you have a wooded area. The idea is that one team has to get from point A to B following a more or less specific route, and somewhere along that path the other team can set up an ambush. I like these scenarios because they're relatively quick to play (30 minutes is usually about right), have tension for both sides, and can be played with a small number of people.
Good 'ol "Capture the Flag" scenarios are also a lot of fun, and I've thought of a few variants on them that could make them even more fun. Having said that, I've been to a few where there were some significant issues. Mainly, capture the flag games don't scale well, and it is very possible to play them on a field too large.

Hostage extractions can also be challenging

We did a 'Spec Ops' (Will Willis on Discovery Channel) just this past weekend. We had a time limit of 3 1/2 hours. No clue who, how many or if there would be an opfor. No idea of the terrain until we had our sat images, (and I only live 10 min from the property). When we arrived we had to cross a 'creek' which was more like a river, up to our chests in water. Took on an opfor that was ready to ambush us at the objective. Completed the objective and had to bug out crossing the stream again, all the while taking enemy fire. Basically the closest I've ever been to any real Milsim game. Had a great time, and Wolfpack/M.O.U.T. is adopting the same style of play for their upcoming games. Check the Prairies section in Gaming area.

Objective games are the best. You can just start with easy objectives to start like some of the ideas here. It keeps the game rolling and you can always add other objectives throught out the game or have more than one to start. Different squads can attack/defend different objectives.

Well come out for Op Cold Front in August. No creeks but probably the best field we've got to offer other than Claybank. Steamplant, H barracks, Hangar, Water treatment plant.
