Test fire - gun started smoking?
So I still haven't got my UMG up and going due to waiting for a charger to be shipped.
I decided to take it apart this morning and clean it up a bit, wipe down the barrel and remove some rust from the spring around the barrel. I decided to plug the battery in for the first time because I remember the seller saying he tested it before shipping it to me and everything was great. So i figured the battery still had some charge and i wanted to see what would happen. I plug the battery in and its one tight ass fit. I try to close the latch door that covers it and a small puff of stinky ass smoke in the battery area filled the air. I immediately take out the battery and set the gun down and came on here Am I jumping the gun here? or did something just fuck up badly. Please help. 1. STOP
2. You need to check that you have not cross circuited the battery, to do this you'll need to ensure that you are connecting the battery the correct way (you didn't mention connector type, sorry I don't want to assume a level of ignorance but some people jam things together when they shouldnt). 3. Ensure that the battery is wired correctly, with the positive wire coming from the positive pole and going to the positive connector etc. 4. Ensure the gun is wired correctly. 5. Contact the seller. Good on you for removing the battery right away, safety first! |

Man! That makes sense!!! The white part on the gun portion that connects the battery fell off and exposed the wires, it hit the floor and i didnt check to see which way it fit back on..so i just placed it on
Being still green I have no idea what type of connectors they are, its just the stock 8.4v stick that came with the G&G UMG Should I commence crying over a broken gun? Or can i still save it |

Ok looking at it again, it is connected correctly, the black wire runs to the black wire when connected, red to red as well.
But ya, i tried to close the latch and i guess maybe i forced it a bit cause it was tight and thats when the smoking started. |

so i went to hook it up again, a few hours later since my first post, this time with a loaded mag.
I pulled the trigger a few times and nothing happened, however when i pulled the mag out, 3 bbs fell out and the rest stayed in the mag.. could this all be because it has no charge? |

Whenever you put a mag into an airsoft gun the spring tension releases and pushes some BB's up higher into the magwell so they can be fired. Sometimes they misfeed, thats why you're loosing BB's, its common and nothing to worry about.
As for the battery problem, I have no clue. Hearing about it smoking worries me, though. |

You may have shorted out your battery...

Given that you seem to be new to the sport and have little knowledge regarding airsoft rifles and battery packs etc, recommend you get yourself a new one.

Ya I give you 1+ internets for that site.
I've shopped around for a battery for the UMG and it seems to be out of stock, that site has them and its an excellent site. Im still trying to figure out what went wrong tho so i can avoid it in the future. Literally i gave a bit of an extra push to close the battery door and it started smoking. When i look at the battery now, there is a little bit of the wire showing from the black one, like maybe the rubber got pinched and broke. The wire itself is still intact and not broken tho. |

Do you know some else in the community who is more experienced w/ these areas? Someone perhaps who got you into the sport and could help you, ASC is a great resource but nothing beats hands on help.
I wish I could offer further advice, but I've never seen let alone worked on a UMP so I can't comment further but to wish you good luck. |
