Velcro Strap
I'm wondering if anyone carries, has access to or knows someone who deals with raw materials when it comes to gear.
I'm looking for a 4in x 9in strap of one sided Velcro, the fluffy side (whatever it's called) doesn't matter the color. Need it for my CIRAS, to prevent a piece of the cummerband with the rough Velcro on it from rubbing my combats underneath all to hell. Any help would be much appreciated! EDIT: Uh, this might be in the wrong section. Please move if so. |

We usually say hook and loop velcro. It your case, I guess that's the loop.
Considering the color doesn't matter, have a look at your local wally's world.

I took the hook panel off one side of the cumberbund. No more rubbing.

You could get any workable velcro stripping and work together several thinner bands with a fabric type tape since most of the velcro I see that is easy to find at places like walmart is like 1/2" and 1" wide at best. Just line the strips up side by side to cover the offending hook velcro section then back them with fabric type tape to hol them together and provide a smooth surface.

Cool, I'll check out WM next time I'm around there. Hook and loop? Always thought the thing you strap around your chest first was a cummerband or however it's spelled, learn something new everyday.

Countless UnderArmour shirts have been ruined and made useless by my CIRAS...I just removed the internal cummerband

The 'scratchy' stuff is the hook and the 'fuzzy' stuff is the loop. |

Ah ok, that makes sense I guess, never really bothered finding out the actual names for them. And yea, main reason I want to cover up the hook part that's against my chest is because it rubs the hell out of regular combat shirts. I can only imagine what it can do to a under armour shirt.

The thing "you wrap around you first" is indeed the cummerband (although I hate that word, it sounds... wrong, lol).

hook and loop fastener is what it is, velcro is a brand. velcro is common used to describe all brands much like Kleenex and tissues.
I also second the idea of just getting a roll of it and cover what you need in strips if you can't find a single large piece. any fabric store should sell it by the foot.

They have 2" wide rolls at the fabric store near here.
If you can't find something large enough, you could always take some 1" and make a square fabric pad with the outer edges "velcroed", so you can just cover the band with it. I reversed the bands on my CIRAS to save my stuff, now it is the vest itself that gets ripped... but never as much as my BDU was... |
