AKS-74 conversion?

Hello all,

A few months back I bought a CYMA AKS-74 in which I encountered some problems (thread link). I decided to work on this and I was wondering about something :

About conversions :

You see, I sort of find my 74 is a bit too long to my liking. I stumbled upon this thread on Red-Alliance talking about converting an AK-74 to an AK-102/104/105. Now my question is, would it be possible to go from a full AKS-74 to a AKS-74U length? or the handguards, front sight post, rear sight block would pose a problem (meaning if I were to just shorten the outer barrel physically and try to fit a AKS74U front sight post).

I thought about maybe try to get a full front set but I realised the two models don't use the same rear sight and receiver covers.

any heads-up would be kindly appreciated! thanks!

If you want to convert to AK-105 :

The AK-105 looks quite similar to the AKS-74 : http://world.guns.ru/assault/as06-e.htm

I think one of the main differences is the 5.45mm vs 5.56mm.

And the front sight assembly.

For the top cover, I guess you could put a non-ribbed AK-47 one in place. (I have one I can give you at Rawdon tomorrow if you wish to see)

And here's a nice shot of a VFC AK-105 if you want to compare.

I could be wrong, but I've been working on a '74 lately, and that's what I noticed.
I call dibs on your '74 flashhider :P

The AK-74 and 105 are both chambered for 5.45X39.

basicaly, the red-alliance thread explained (rather quickly) that choping the outer barrel and using an AK-105 front sight post would do the trick but I really love the fact that front sight is almost sticking to the handguard.

I'm really looking for something more comfortable and practical. I have something in mind but I don't want to make AK purists puke on here
