Toronto photographer looking for guns.
Hey!
I'm a toronto based photographer that's looking for some imitation guns/uniforms for a few photoshoots. The first shoot will hopefully be this saturday and will basically be of a model posing with the guns. The shoot will be about two hours and will be located downtown Toronto. If need be I can go to and from anywhere the TTC travels to pick them up/drop them off. It is cool if you want to join the shoot but just don't be a huge creep. Also, expect me to ask you to help me out by moving lights around and stuff. If the shoot goes well I plan on making a series out of it. I also have another shoot that I would like to do sometime in December. I will be re-creating a scene of police/army/swat/whatever breaching a room and taking down "suspects". So, I'd need a few dudes that have the full attire to be able to simulate an army/swat whatever squad. This will hopefully become a band shoot. The whole theme will be the band in a room while the squad enters the room and takes them down with aggression (throwing them to the walls/ground and such). This shoot will definitely be a lot of fun. I was wondering if anyone from the Toronto area would be willing to help me out? I don't have much for compensation but we can discuss it if you think you can help me out... there will be beer at both shoots. You can check out my work at www.dylanleeder.com. Feel free to respond to this or e-mail me at contact@dylanleeder.com Hope to hear from you guys! - Dylan |

Don't expect people to just loan their guns out to a stranger.
I would expect that the person would either want to be there, or take a deposit from you (keep in mind our guns can be hundreds or thousands of dollars EACH). |

Don't mean to thread jack, but when we 'invite' people as extra hands, etc etc, we usually have a buffet setup. No need to be fancy, but i learned that buying a couple extra large pizza + providing some drinks motivates people to come give their time.
Good Luck. |

Let me stop this right now.
You want people to lend you guns without being present? You best be forking over a safety deposit equal to the value of the gun and even then I'd caution people. Look at it from the flip side: would you just lend some stranger your photo gear and hope for the best? Second, you're asking for freebie loaners AND expecting people to help you out if they attend the shoot? You'd best be offering a half decent meal at minimum. Or would you like to lend me your camera, and you could wash my car while you wait? Third, your shoot is in "downtown TO": if it's anywhere else than private property (like your studio) you'd best have formal permission to be there. Otherwise, once again, I'd warn the prospective participant to beware (it's your guns on the line).

Agreed you are asking for alot, especially with the "band take down" shoot. seems pretty risky for the guns to me
fyi, I'd probably loan my personal gun for something around 50 bucks a shoot plus deposit. Its a 700$+ gun that I spent hours working on. What if one of the models drops it? you dont get freebies in life, especially not like this. Think about it from our pov aside from that though you got some pretty nice photos |
