JG M5-A4 vs. Broxa MP5
BEFORE ANYONE FLAMES THIS THREAD, I WOULD LIKE TO RECONFIRM THAT THIS THREAD IS IN THE N00BIE TANK -- YES IT IS.
Now, on to my N00BIE question. Hey everyone, I'm new to airsoft and am looking to get age verified, so I can get access to the classifieds, but in the meantime I've browsed various retail sites, including BuyAirsoft.ca, 007Airsoft, CHiX Airsoft (anyone have additional information on this one?), and various Canadian airsoft dealers. It is needless to say, I presume, that anyone new to airsoft would not be able, financially and emotionally, to hand over a couple bills at the click of a button. Being from Taiwan, I know very well that the prices of the Canadian-legal counterparts are inflated by around three times or even more; I'm not about the complain about a sport I am thinking about getting into, but once again I am merely stressing the amount of consideration (financially) when buying. All in all, I'm being "cheap", as of now, even if I acknowledge that "what you pay for is what you get". Anyways, I was looking at the Jing Gong M5-A4 (listed on chixsoft.com for $230) in contrast to the MP5 BROXA EVOLUATION (listed on shooftsoft.ca for about $230 as well) which seem like they are affordable, introductory smg's, even though I found out that many don't consider the MP5 as a primary after snooping around here in the forums. On top of that, I've noticed that the JG is listed to shoot 340-400 fps, while the Broxa shoots 400 fps. Are these numbers accurate? So -- when it comes down to aspects of durability, reliability, and (potential) upgrades, -- here it comes -- which is better? |

I would probably go with the JG MP5 to be honest, I've heard about Broxa's being hit-or-miss.
Your ultimate best bet would be to save up more money and grab an MP5 made by Classic Army. They are far more durable and sexy than the two guns you are comparing, and will probably last you longer.

Go with the JG MP5. It will have much better internal quality then the Broxa. The Broxa is an overpriced clearsoft gun. Yes it is a good project gun, but if you're looking for something to start you into the sport, buy the JG if that is all you can afford.
I started with a Firepower XM8, bought an Echo 1 G36 gearbox, put a TM G36 hop up in, and a Madbull Tightbore... Wasn't a fun experience. Yes I knew my gun, but I also spent alot of time and money ordering parts and waiting for them to arrive and installing them. The JG MP5 series should suit your needs well. I still recommend getting AV'd and checking out the classifieds before you buy it though.

Have any of you handled a JG MP5? They are COMPLETE GARBAGE! I was shocked at how bad they are. A teammate of mine gamed a broxa for a while with no problems. Other than it being clear its far better than the JG. I have experience with both and JG mp5s are crapola.

Getting AV does expand your choices so that's always recommended.
Not only do you get access to retailers who only operate on ASC but also used classifieds where there might be package deals or $150 fixer guns or even $3000+ guns and everything in between. However out of those 2 choices I'd say the JG is the better deal (however this is judging by their whole lineup not specific guns). As well FPS isn't everything if you're just looking at that, in fact it's as easy as a $10 spring upgrade/downgrade to change it. In fact it's a horrible way to gauge quality. Would you rather get a Jaguar that has to be in the shop for 3 days for every day it's out on the road or would you rather have something that's a bit slower and less sporty but is reliable for ever except for the occasional replacement/maintenance/tuning.

Thanks
Thanks for the quick responses,
I understand that price ultimately has a great impact on the quality of a gun; I would buy a CA MP5 if I had a.) the money and b.) the intent to immediately immerse myself in airsoft. I'm still in school (UBC, actually ) and it isn't likely for me to be able to jump into the sport. But anyways, thanks for the responses, I will definitely order when my paycheck comes, but can someone spare some information on ChiXsoft.com? I definitely see a conflict of interests as everybody has their own opinions and preferences; I guess I'm just going to have to go with my conscience then . JG is garbage.... I've seen more Aftermath mp5 last longer than JG. But I wouldn't get neither of those gun. If you get AV'd you can expand your options and pick from ICS mp5, CA mp5 or G&G mp5.

JG is a Chinese based brand; not to be offensive to anybody, but being Taiwanese I would know that what's Made in Taiwan is better somewhat in quality compared to what's Made in China. But hell, people used to laugh at things "Made in Taiwan"....lol

The Aftermath isnt made in Taiwan, its made in China.
Classic Army would be the way to go if i were you. EDIT: Unless you were talking about the ICS/G&G

don't buy from shootsoft, look up the terrible reviews they get.
Chix is up to you, theres another recent thread with someone asking about their credibility. apparently they don't answer some emails, and have slow shipping. |

You know what you should do then is contact Optix or Kampfer. They should both be in the general area and get you totally AV'ed.
There's also always the option of borrowing/renting. These are usually done privately between players and costs might be from free to buying them a 6 pack or $20 or something. It's a lot more economical. As well the field you'll likely want to go to is Panther which is a bit far (from UBC main campus) but from Coquitlam or even SFU it's a lot closer. Also don't forget to check out PoCo military (in PoCo which is like a hop skip and a jump away (they also have a store in Langley)).

About ChiXsoft, I sent an inquiry earlier today and received a response not too long ago. The demeanor of the response seems decently accountable, so I think I will order from them sometime soon.
EDIT: Thanks L473ency, for the info. Regarding borrowing/renting, I personally like to have a sense of ownership when it comes to my hobbies; I have nothing against borrowing things, but I guess I've been raised to try to earn things with my own power. I actually live on campus but I do come back to Coquitlam every weekend. Hopefully after exams are over I'll have the chance to dwell into airsoft a little more. Again, thanks for the info. About getting AV'ed, I've sent Kampfer a pm but have not been replied to yet. Last edited by cmk0803; November 27th, 2010 at 18:03.. |

So, I've been continuously browsing airsoft retailer sites even though I know I should really wait to get AV'ed so access to the classifieds would be granted upon me, and despite the negative feedback on shootsoft.ca, I found the Aftermath 300MP5es (aka. Lycaon?) on sale for 70 bucks (with shipping and whatever totaled at around 110). So I decided that it's going to be my first gun and hopefully it performs to suit my needs (N00BIE) alright and it seems like it's a great bang for the buck. It would be great if I could get some feedback on the buy.
PS. I know my decision of buying the gun; being Aftermath, a clearsoft brand probably takes a shit load of criticism, but it's my first gun and it seems to me like a wonderful deal at just about $110 paid. Last edited by cmk0803; November 28th, 2010 at 03:58.. |

NO! Read the reviews first, from what I'm reading you should avoid that model like the plague. The worthwhile Aftermath's to get are the Kraken and Broxa ONLY, everything else from their lineup is pretty much crap.
Also, the Aftermath isn't that great of a brand to start with but if you're on a tight budget, have the mechanical aptitude, money for future upgrades, and time then it'll be OK for starting out but definitely not the best. First thing that you pretty much MUST do when you get the gun is to take it apart, clean out the crappy grease and relube with something like FinishLine Teflon grease or White lithium grease (Dunbar Lumber should have it and is pretty closeby if you don't want to go that far otherwise HomeDepot is where you'll want to go). Reason being is that someone once said "It's like someone shat low quality grease all over the gearbox except in the places that it's actually important". Then after that a spring downgrade to an M110 is also recommended so that you are for sure under the field limits. PS: Don't forget to join Op-For Airsoft that's where local games should be announced and stuff.
