GBB Winter Ready?
WINTERS HERE..and my WE m4 is hurting!
As expected, I've noticed a decrease in performance using my GG/Propane mags. Of coarse, there's the CO2 ready mag option, but it'll murk my wallet..SO I'm thinking of tying a handwarmer to each of my mags hoping it'll negate the cold temperatures. Theoriticaly it should work..I think.. My question is, for those operators of GBBR's, what are you doing to adapt to the drop in temperatures? Aside from buying CO2 or playing indoors. Has anyone tried tying handwarmers to their propane mags? Does it actually help maintain the fps? Let me here your thoughts! |

I've been wondering the same. Seeing as how a GBBR is your primary, it really should to perform well. Solutions I've thought of are to use systems with large gas capacities and/or lightweight moving parts... neither of which are available for WE M4's?
Sure, hand warmers could work, but how would you keep them on your mag? Would you keep it on the mag in your gun? What happens when you reload (i.e. reloading under pressure - speed reload or something like that)? Yay, I subscribed to this thread without submitting any meaningful contribution, lol. Edit: my solution is to use an AEG. lol |

yea sadly, and especially the WE m4's, GBBR dont like the cold past plus five, even that is pushing it, because of their large gas consumption. At the very least it would have to remain on semi, full auto is competely out of the question lol. Now if one finds a way to keep the mags nice and toasty, they could possibly work.. but still semi only lol.

Pistols are another story... I ran my KWA USP in minus 10 last winter with little to no problem .. slide just won't lock back... all I did was keep my mags between my chest and my vest to keep them warm... and stuck them between my arm pits directly after filling

I haven't thought of a solution yet, except for putting the mags close to your chest to keep them warm and hope they work well when they are used, lol. Other than that, an AEG would be the best option or just game indoors.

I highly doubt hand warmers will help much. You'll need at least 2 per mag and depending on how many mags you run, it'd be cheaper to get CO2 mags. You might also think about how to keep your guns internals from freezing up.
If you are so determined to run a gbbr in the winter, you'd be better off converting CO2 mags with quick disconnects and an air rig (HPA). CO2 also has it's cool down issues and is one if the reasons you'll find paint ballers running air. With most markers it is a near direct substitution that is more consistent than CO2. |

It wont work good enough to use effectively. I gamed my WE at an outdoor game and kept my mags next to my skin until I was shooting, still sucked. Gas guns are a +15 and above gun. IMO.
Get an AEG for winter. |

For all those saying switch to an AEG, you seem to be forgetting the much faster battery drain in cold as well as the fact that AEGs tend to break much easier in the cold.
A well made springer is probably best for winter... My KJW/TK Works just fine down to ~3C. I have not had a chance to test it below 0 yet.

well ill be one to say that its not really that much fun playing in anything past minus 15... plus if you have a well maintained/greased/lubed mechbox.. you shouldnt have anything to worry about untill the minus 20 area.. but yea you are right about battery drain.. thats where those handwarmers come in really handy !

Less than 10c and you will see performance drop.
Because of the cooling action of gas expansion keeping them warm does little to address this... the ambient temperature is the baseline. CO2 is the only way to go

Little update : I put the WE G36C out this week end, the gaz mag doesn't like much the -1 C but it could still empty a mag, a chemical warmer in pouch/tapped to mag might very we'll do the trick.
On my KJW M9 (I only use CO2 mags), no worries whatsoever. |
