solved: Very Light sexy trigger for AUG

hey all

I've been thinking of solving the problem for the AUG trigger: basically on this gun it's a big chunk of plastic that moves horizontally and actions the actual mechbox trigger through a long metal bar that goes around the magazine well.
No matter what you do and how crisp your mechbox is, you never quite get the clean action of a hi-quality conventionnal trigger.

My first idea was to put ball bearings at the bottom of the part, where there is a contact (sliding action) on the body's plastic ( and that's also where lies a good part of the friction); ball bearings are a bit too hard to setup an unnecessary there so I' ll make a set of tiny wheels instead, on which the trigger part should slide easily.
this should seriously 'oil' the movement and should feel much better.
I found the parts I will use and I'll post pics tomorrow

hello
so here's the first wheel:
the wheel part is a promotional screwdriver's handle, while the axis is made with an electrical connector:



after sawing , here's the wheel:


I then added a little piece of shrink tube to make some sort of tire.I was afraid the wheel would slide if I left it plastic-on-plastic.



now I will carve the trigger part to make space for the wheel ;
one wheel should be enough.
my concern then will be to install the wheel (that means drilling holes for the axis in the trigger ) at exactly the right height to improve the action and not make it worse - low enough to relieve the trigger's upper rail (that's where the spring is installed) from the friction of the trigger block) but not too low as it would create friction at the bottom of the upper rail.

I have 2 spare trigger assemblies, 1 is fine the other is butchered somewhat but functional. If you want the butchered one as a test bed pm me.You can have it-just cover the shipping.

I already have a spare trigger assembly that I'm going to butcher, I've had several AUGs

so here I marked in black the zone where I'm going to carve. the green tape covers the region of the trigger that stands outside the body...not much room left.



Also I will have to modify the rails at the top of this part and its support to reduce friction as much as possible.However I'm not exactly sure what to do there yet.

Ok so I've been investigating a bit more and I found other important friction points:

First there is the spring that sometimes (it was the case on both my AUGs, one TM, one CA )touches the trigger block creating friction since the block slides along the spring.I removed some plastic.


Also there are those 'clikers' that are supposed to separate single from full.I lost them so I'm going to consider I got rid of them to make the action easier - however there are deep marks in the plastic there so there was probably important friction.


This is where the assembly actually touches the mechbox (the tit pushes on the mechbox's trigger).It definitely needs a wheel here.


And of course there is the upper rail that it plastic-on-plastic.(photo 1) -

you guys are going to laugh.
I investigated further and came to the conclusion that the parts most responsible for the trigger response on an AUG are pretty obviously the mechbox's trigger's spring, and the body's trigger spring .
While I don't intend to mess with the mechbox's spring, I took a look at the body spring, and of course it's unbelievably heavy.
I searched around and could find no lighter spring that could be adapted to it; however in the kitchen I found elastics that were used to pack vegetables.
I used two on the trigger, they were exactly the right length, very light but they do bring back the trigger in position just like it's supposed to.
I tried the aeg fully mounted and it's crazy: it's very efficient, the trigger is light but not too much, it's a real pleasure
I might add the wheel between mechbox and metal tit as I said previously, but just with this fix here it's a lot better! and cheap.

That's not a bad idea actually. When my spring starts to wear down, I'll put an elastic to replace it like you did. You've done some great work here.
