Reviving a dead battery
Hi everyone.
I think one of my batteries is dead. I noticed last year that this particular one wouldn't last as long as the other ones, but now its not even usable anymore. I charged it to full, and then by the time I got ready preparing my stuff and got to the field (an hour or two), I could only fire a couple shots. So I searched online about tips on how to revive a dead battery. Some say to put it in the freezer, or short it with a car battery or a welder. One I found interesting suggested to take apart a disposable camera, and use the flash capacitor to deliver a ~1000v short. Any other ideas? |

No, both NiCd and NiMh can be zapped.
He is talking about deep discharge. There is a machine called a "zapper" that is worth about 5K$... some hobbyshops and battery specialized places have it. It MIGHT revive you battery, but I would guess you paid less than 100$ for the battery pack right? Better just buy a new one and forget about the problem. |

I did this once to one of my old NiCd packs, I was in a pinch and zapped each cell individually and re soldered the battery. I wouldn't do it unless you had no choice and needed to make it to a game.

If you do get it revived, it won't perform nearly as well as it did new. You're better off with a new battery.

I only did it that way because I really needed it for the next day. |

Buy a new, good quality battery. And don't screw the new one up with a dumb wall charger.
