Help finding correct motor
Hi guys, I recently acquired a JLS F2000, it had been in storage for quite some time and the motor was shot. I tried to replace the motor with a short G&P M120 but found that the motor was too long. My question is, where can I find this length motor?
Here is the motor in question, on the right.

The JLS F2000 uses a proprietary motor. You are going to have to cut down the motor shaft or somehow find a JLS replacement

Good luck.
You should start saving for the G&G |

Well fortunately the dead motor has a website and a phone number you can "try".
I shouldn't spoon feed but here. http://www.chaolimotor.com/en/ProductList.Asp This may be the motor in question. http://www.chaolimotor.com/en/ProductView.Asp?ID=83 |

if it's a press fit... you could just tap the pinion down lower and cut the excess shaft off
if it's a "D" shaft .. take the pinion off and file/grind the flat on the shaft for the pinion to go farther down and then cut/file the excess off if your going to tap the pinion down make sure you support the motor shaft at the back .. the shaft itself not the motor end bell to avoid any damage to bearings/bushings and endbell. also be careful not to "mushroom" the shaft

You're really best off to "press" the pinion gear on to minimize the risk and extend of damage to your motor.
Either have a hobby shop do it for you...or make a jig...or use and arbor press (I've used an old reloading hand die press before). A purpose built pinion puller/pusher is best though since pulling a pinion without one is a PITA. For really stubborn ones I just cut them off (if they're really bad you stand just as much chance of bending your puller pin) Also...if you're going to cut a shaft...tape up everything but the part you're cutting. Otherwise the metal shavings/dust will end up in the motor. |

Thanks for the info everyone! My co-worker suggested cleaning up the motor brushes and internals, he said that's the reason why it smokes and chokes, I was considering cutting down the G&P motor if this one doesn't end up working after cleaning, the G&P motor has a circular shaft while the JLS stock one has a D shaped shaft.. Worst comes to worst I'll order one from the company in question, thanks for the link Azathoth!
And great suggestions everyone for how to shorten the shaft, I'll make sure to tape it up and support the other end as not to damage it. Thanks again everyone! I'll update it when it's fixed/replaced/modded The JLS F2000 has a lot of potential, especially for the price I picked it up for! There is also a mod to put an AUG or P90 mechbox into it.

That mod for putting in the P90/M14 (v6/v7 gearbox is pretty win (takes a bit of time. If you are going to eventually do that I recommend you just buy a complete v6 gearbox and forget about fixing the motor completely. I could use your M120 myself depending on the price

I'll let you know man, I just clean up the motor slightly and it seems to be working better and smoother, and most importantly with dramatically less smoke. When I tear it down completely and clean it I'll test it again..
Edit: I just tested the motor after some minor cleaning of the drum and two contacts at the base of the motor, and slight lubrication of the bottom of the shaft with some silicone oil, I've managed to stop the smoking of the motor altogether, and it is now working at full power. I hope others can read this and revive their motors as well, this seems to be a frequent occurrence on the forum. Later tonight I'll take a picture of what (and how) I cleaned the motor.
