remove paint from clear reciever

Hey guys, i dont know if this is the right plave to ask or not, but I recently bought a KJW GBB m4, Tanio Koba edition, and the clear plastic reciever has been painted over. Now, ive had issues with the police thinking its a replica, and while i know id win it back in court, id like to avoid them siezing it in the first place. So my first logical thought, is to make the reciever clear once again. Does anyone know of a way to strip the paint off (looks like a krylon spray) without fogging/melting the plastic?

and inb4 they can't sieze it, because they can, all they need is suspiscion of a weapon, the charge is weapons dangerous to the public peace

I'd be willing to bet that anything that will remove paint will also melt the plastic of the receiver.

Also what were you doing do that the police got a good look at it to begin with?

The issue isn't with the color.

The issue is you doing something stupid that got the police on your ass. Unless you called them to your place because of a robber, and then they saw it and though it wasn't secured properly... but somehow, I really doubt this is what happenned.

I think you have much more serious problems than removing paint. Even with a clear body gun, the cops can still cause you trouble if you're irresponsible with it. And for your question, you can try brake fluid (Dot 3), or with a little bit of elbow grease, alcohol and a stiff brush does work. Either way, you need to be very careful and not let any chemicals sit on the plastic too long.

As a painter I have often used simple green on old paint caked brushes. Simple green is apparently "non-toxic" and I have not had any damage done to my brushes or equipment. However, simple green only has a limited effect on oil based or enamel based paints. Through some tests I have done, the krylon plastic spray paint will not come off completely despite prolonged exposure. I sprayed down a pallete with some of that stuff, however it will not remove all of it and there will be a "stain" of paint left on said pallette.

Note: You must submerge the affected object for a few hours as simple green merely loosens the paints hold onto the surface. Once soaked for a few hours or as desired simply take a tooth brush or something and scrub it off.

the issues we had, was we used to have a farmers field we would play at, and people would walk by and see people taking their guns out of their cars and call the cops, but thats not the focus here, i wanna know if i can take the paint off

Yes but you need something that will not melt the plastic. Anything generally strong enough will do that. I suggest elbow grease ans steel wool.

and like i said, the whole reason i want it clear again, is because the cops simply need to be slightly annoyed to sieze it, like i said, i know id get it back, but id like to avoid this whole thing. And iff a clear reciever is good enough for customs then it better damn well be good enough for cops. When they were talking to us, it was actually kinda funny, one guy kept saying it was identical to a C8, and would sieze it as a replica if i didnt change it......

also, this is the charge they said id get, i dunno how applicable it actually is, but i do know from experience that they can blanket charge it

The problem is not the gun... The problem is where you are using it. Clear or not the police must respond to complaints.

lol, it was a private farm, and we had written permission, they had no issue with us being there, but they were mad that people kept seing our guns. They just made an example of mine for how realistic some looked, hence my wanting to make it still cool but a little less believeable

Simple green does not appear to damage plastic. Ive had palletes soaking in the stuff for months and nothing seems to happen.

The PROBLEM IS NOT that you had permission from the property owner.

The PROBLEM IS that you and your compatriots were unpacking your guns in PUBLIC VIEW to people who were NOT the property owner.

And, yes, those are serious charges if they ever decide to formally charge you.

Move further back from the public laneways before unpacking your guns. This old adage is true in airsoft - "out of sight, out of mind".
