Insurance

You are going to need to get Commercial General Liablity Insurance.

which will cost you a few thousand dollars....There are very few carriers for insurance for such activities.. so they kinda get to set the price where they want to.

And.. you will want to seperate the operation from yourself So that if it goes sour you ( or your family ) won't loose their home, cars , life savings.. so you need to set up a business, and incorporate, which will cost you .. if you use a lawyer.. a couple of thousand...

so.. I guess .. you need money first

There is soooooo much more than .. hey I got this land.. lets play!! to it

You could just do it.. and hope for the best... but that is how folks end up homeless.

BTW, before he tells you, it's not nice to borrow someone else's avatar.

Dont try it without having the right paperwork. It's not a brilliant move at all.

Hooo boy ...

You can host games if you want without insurance. I know for a fact that there have been many games played on private land, and at people's work ... and there was no insurance ... Maybe it's not the best situation to not have insurance, but not everyone does everything by the book all the time. Depends on who you play with.

Personally, I'm not some whiney bitch, if I got injured during a game on someone's land (and I did, over $2,500 in dental work, half of which I paid myself, my dental plan at work covered the rest) I would take responsibility since I was the one who went there to play. Some people are lowly scum however, and may attempt place blame on others which could potentially put you in hot water if something were to happen to them.

Hypothetically ... if I were you and had that land, I would host smallish private games with respectable players and things would be fine. Don't let all the over sensitive net nannies get ya scared. Just exercise common sense and safety rules and everyone will have a great time.

just make up some waviers for people to sign before they play so they can't sue you if they get hurt.

In Canada you are not legally permitted to sign away your rights ... even volunteeraly. It's common practice to use them, but any lawyer would make the aforementioned argument, and the waiver would be null and void.

I think you're missing the point . . . . .What Freedom Fighter is saying is that even if you DO have a waiver, it is legally void. So somebody can sue you even if you made them sign a waiver.

some sort of legal paper stating saftey things written up by a lawyer, a business licence not just any but some comercial liability, and if you dont want to get in trouble then get one of those corporation things because you want to be seperate from your company so people can sue the company instead of you but if you lose money you cant put it on the tax forms because youre seperate from the company itself. So its really youre decision
