Hop up rubber colour coding

I am looking at putting a better hop up rubber in my gun. As I have been shopping around I have become quite confused on which rubber to use. What rubber would be best in a stock CYMA AKS-74U, firing ~380fps.

There's no specific colour coding. Different brands may use different materials that affect the color of the product. That's about it.

Personally, I like the Guarder Clear hopups. The seem to perform best overall in my guns out of the various ones I've tried. And most of my guns shoot in 370-400 fps range.

PDI W-Hold. They're new, but I've gotten great results from them so far, and all my customers love them.

Has a v-notch, and improves seal via two thicker gauged bands to squeeze between the barrel and hop up chamber.

My go to for <400 FPS setups will always be Prommy Purple or Guarder Clear. Maybe a Firefly but I haven't heard much about people using their AEG version buckings, typically the FF VSR buckings are used in upgraded VSR's (other popular companies include KA, and 9Ball).

Although the PDI W-Hold does sound pretty interesting... Maybe I'll have to try it out one day.

I've used the Firefly ones as well, and thought they were great... until I tried the PDI W-Hold. It took the great features of the Firefly (v-notch plus durability), and expanded it with a greater seal.

I'd place both of those above Prometheus and Guarder Clear.

Prommy purples myself. But now I am intrigued by these PDI W-Holds. Where can I get em? Does Jugglez carry them?

I cannot believe you guys are recommending such soft rubbers for higher fps setups. Guarders clears are garbage, rip easy and you can normally drop a bb right through. No hold. Modify hop up rubbers are great, cheap too. Waiting to try the PDI w hold as well. Saw it a while ago.

My outdoor rifles are in the 370+ fps range. I've had Guarder clear in them for years now without any issue whatsoever - from tearing, wearing out, or holding BBs. My 350 fps custom MP5 has a guarder clear, and that little bastard could be considered a sniper for the range and accuracy it gets. My 400 fps A&K SAW has stupid range and the only non-stock part in it is the Guarder clear rubber. Tens of thousands of rounds have been put through each of my guns, and I've yet to have to replace one of the rubbers. They do take extra care when installing though because they do tear more easily than other rubbers.

Although now I'm curious about those PDI ones. Next time I need to replace one, I'll try one of those out.

The KWA hop up rubber in the 2gx AEGs is similar to the PDI W-Hold and works well.

Good to know. I haven't seen any of their modern hop ups lately. Unfortunately, they use a really crap rubber in most of their GBB's that's prone to swelling when exposed to any moderate amount of silicone oil.

The PDI rubber is made of Nitrile, which is a very resilient compound against many chemicals, while being able to maintain high flexibility (unlike Viton).

^Get more for sure, I would like to try some as well. As far as the guarder clear I guess I just have bad luck. Tried two different guarder clears in 4 different guns yielding the same results, double feeds and just overall bad performance.

I've had Guarder clears work well for me, but their poor durability is a huge turn off for me. I've also found them to be extremely sensitive to different lubricant compositions.

Personally, I just want my guns to work when I need to use them. I don't want to be always worried about a part potentially failing, or a hop up rubber potentially being over swollen from too much silicone oil or whatever the case may be. I don't want to be always checking my rubber to see if it's torn, either (this goes for other activities *outside* of airsoft........)

Yeah, I ditch the cheap Taiwanese/Chinese made rubbers and stick to the trusted brands.
