What does this piece in the mechbox do?

Hey, just bought a second hand aeg and its a brick :/ but at least it gives me a chance to learn mechbox. Turns out the sector gear is missing 3 teeth. There is a flipper like object that is left and sort of between the bevel gear and spur gear and is held on by a small weak spring. Being no expert I don't understand the purpose of this piece. Can someone enlighten me. Thank you.

Anti-reversal latch, keeps the spring from unwinding your gears after every shot.

Anti Reversal Latch.

Prevents the gears from spinning "backwards" after each shot.

If you notice on the bevel gear there's "notches" that's what the ARL gets stuck against preventing the gears from spinning backwards.

Also if you install the wires on the motor backwards the gears will "seize" and not spin backwards.

Perfect, thank you for the info I don't quite understand how that works since when the spring recoils it shouldn't be contacting any gears but I'm sure when I get home and take a look it will make sense.

According to thenooblord, the piece is totally irrelavant and you should not put any further thought into it.

In all seriousness, its a ratchet to keep the gears spinning in one direction only. To install it you hook one end of the spring on the back side of the latch, and compress it against the side of the wall with the latch as you install the bevel gear. To ensure you have installed it correctly, remove the piston and spring and attempt to spin the gears (while holding the anti reverse latch down with a finger) and see if it "ratchets" with the gears.

What's important to note, is if you don't have it working properly, you'll easily strip your mechbox IF you fire semi auto or full auto in quick successive bursts.
But your mechbox will still work fine without it, as long as you give time for the piston to reach it's full forward position

But you should definitely have it in there working properly lol
