M4 Short Mag questions
I have a TM M4 (with G&P metal body). I'm looking at the G&P 110R M16VN Metal Magazine 5pc Box Set from http://www.airsoftparts.ca/ @ $75. I like the fact that these are the short style mags, compared to the standard length, and are mid-cap. Any reason why i'd want to get the regular sized ones?
Suggestions are welcome! Thanks

Unless you get proper mag pouches for VN style mags, you'll have a hard time fishing them out of the bottom of standard mag pouches in the field for quick reloads. Otherwise, I can't really see any disadvantage to them compared to standard size ones.

Roll up your fresh socks and stuff them in the bottom of your mag pouches. Raises the short mags to a useful height AND you get fresh socks when you need them!

I did the same thing but with old cutup shirts and haven't had any issues.
I'm not running VN mags anymore, but it does work. |

Good advice guys! I thought I would have to accept not being able to get short mags without buying more gear. I just don't see why i'd want longer mags with same capacity if short ones look so awesome.

It's really just for the looks....in real life if you want a lot of rounds in a mag it's going to end up being a certain size.
I'm sure we're going to eventually see the opposite trend come out with Surfire's 60 or 100 rnd (real rounds) mags as they become popular. In airsoft capacity terms that translates to a bag of BBs..... As soon as there's a pic of a Delta/SEAL/etc...operator with one, it'll be the hottest thing (of the week). |

I had those mags at one point. Work great.
As for mag management, I cut some high density foam, not rigid foam, into rectangular block and stuffed them in my pouches. Also, I used paracord mag pulls so that they could sit lower in the pouch. |
