Long-term solution to lack of compression in piston head??
So my supposedly "high compression" metal G&G piston head is only capable of any compression at all if the o-ring is routinely stretched and heated. However, I'm reluctant to buy a new one because it does actually do a really good job after the stretching and heating. . . it's just that that method obviously has to be repeated time and time again.
Anybody have any long term solutions, such as using a larger size o-ring or wrapping thread around the head? |

You basically said it yourself: get a new o-ring.
If you want real high-compression, you might want to check out X-rings. I bought a bunch from McMaster Carr for next to nothing in various sizes. |

Which McMaster numbers did you try and which ones worked the best?

you can wrap teflon tape around the head also

This is not advisable.

teflon tape shreds easily, especially if you have a ported cylinder, and will plug up the barrel, causing a jam, and that jam may end up stripping your piston |

He must have meant putting Teflon tape around the cylinder head (it's possible to do this without exposing any of the tape to the inside of the cylinder). Putting it around the piston head is a crazy idea, that Teflon tape is going to wind up as a fine pulp all over everything in your mechbox

Use "gas tape" http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdf...ea5dc6623e.pdf , designed for high pressure/gas applications, and it doesn't degrade like teflon does.

what the OP could also do is put "black" gasket sealer on the cylinder head

Solution is simple, replace the o-ring with a new one. Don't wrap teflon tape or anything else around the piston head. It doesn't work and you'll be replacing it over and over. Replace that metal piston head with a quality polycarbonate ported one, that will prolong the life of your gearbox. The ARS one is a good option.

The cylinder head isn't the problem. He didn't even mention it in the original post.
