Need paint advice!!!
hello ASC.
this may be a newbie question but im trying to paint marui g18c's outer barrel silver amd im at a loss on which paint to use. can anyone offer some advice? i bought a used barrel from the av section. it is the threaded barrel from the PGC aluminum slide and barrel set. the previous owner sanded it down but i didnt like his sanding job. it isnt quite as good as hoped it would be as there are some uneven spots. hence i want to coat it with a bit of silver metal looking paint. which one should i get? thanks ASC. |

Yeah, don't paint it. Polish it and seal the polish job with a clear paint sealant.
Silver paint will wear onto other parts of the gun eventually, and will look like shit immediately after painting. |

Please please please dont paint any metal airsoft part silver EVER! It will just look horrid. If you have the luxury of having metal and want to show it off go to your local crappy tire and buy some "mother's mag and aluminum polish" for about 9 bucks, and found in the auto section. Then you can polish the hell out of the barrel! You can buy the billet polish but the mag one works just as well and its half the cost.
Ill only take about 15 minutes of work to make it look amazing and the polish should keep it from oxidizing and looking like crap. On the plus side you will have for your parts box something to mod with. It will give you much more utility value than a can of spray paint ever will. You can use this to bling out GGBs or fine tune the innards of your GBBs to make internal parts super smooth and frictionless. One little tub should last you years of modding. Here are some pics of guns I used to own. It literally took 15 minutes of work or less to do this. Last edited by jordan7831; March 23rd, 2012 at 19:53.. |

Thanks for the advice. I'll polish it.
BTW, that's one sexy barrel and slide set. Is that thing only made for the G17? or can i fit it into the 18c as well? |

Glad to help. Its a KSC glock 23f. But the 18 will look pretty badass polished as well. Lots of great ideas there on google. Here is what an old one I had looked like.
This one isnt polished so it was pretty oxidized within a week of sanding. |

I'm a little slow on the ball, but seeing as the picture is already loaded......Mothers mag polish worked well for me too

Just out of curiosity, are there any threaded barrels at for the Marui g18c that's stainless or just silver in general? Detonator has the Lone Wolf one but that was a limited run as far as I was told. I've seen the non-threaded only
Also, what grade sand paper should i be using to get rid of the paint? Last edited by e-luder; March 23rd, 2012 at 23:26.. |

Depends, some say you could go with paint stripper but thats generally bad advice so cross that out. For paper I usually start with 220 > 400 > 600> 800 > 1000 and then polish. But you can get away with using up to 600.
Edit: Arc-74 reminded me there is also 2000 grit. You can use this but I found it doesnt really do much if you plan on polishing it up. All it does is make your hands pretty dirty lol. Last edited by jordan7831; March 24th, 2012 at 01:13.. |
