MP5 Tactical/Flashlight handguard & 9.6V mini?

I was previously using a 9.6V mini battery for my TM MP5-J/A5. The battery was meant for a G36C which just fits into my stock MP5 handguard. I recently purchased a G&P Tactical Handguard w/ flashlight but realized that there was less room in this one than the stock handguard. Therefore I was not able to fit my 9.6V into the new handguard at all.

So I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who did manage to fit a 9.6V into their tactical handguard? Did you have to do some modifications to the handguard?
