NEW KJ Works KP05 Questions

Hi All,

My awesome wife bought me a KJ Works KP-05 GBBP for Christmas, God bless her! My first GBBP

However I do have a few questions about it.

It is the Canadian model as it has the smokey lower pistol grip which carries through to the lower mount. (Sorry I dont the correct terms.) I would to change this metal or at least have one coloured as the smokey grey bugs the heck out of me. I have been looking for parts online but can find nothing.

Also out of the box the gun does not lock open once out of ammo. What cause the this as the gun should do this. I called the store my wife purchased the gun from but they said there was no warrenty and that we would have to pay in order to get it fixed. Any suggestions?

And finally what brands are compatable with KJW as this may make finding parts much easier.

Thanks for your time friends,

Happy New Year

First off don't pay to get it fixed. There is a huge amount of knowledge on this website.

Regarding getting a full black lower, your pretty much out of luck finding a replacement one. Your best off dying or spray painting the plastic the colour of your choice.

For the slide release, does the slide lock back with an empty mag inserted when your manually pull back the slide? If it doesn't lock back even when you rack the slide manually it can indicate the mag follower isn't pushing it up enough, or the mag release is worn.

the slide not locking back is probably due to a worn slide stop or a worn plastic nub on the magazine (the nub that sticks out the side and goes up and down with the follower on the side)

*i think you have the KP-06, not the 05. the 05's lower iscomprised of 2 parts screwed together, and getting an opaque grip is easy. probably the same reason they made it illegal to import it

The slide at no point locks.
So that would suggest it isnt sitting high enough when the mag is loaded?

Hmm that is disapointing about the lower.

Also the box it came in said 05 and had a picture of it of course it looked different cause it had the metal lower in the picture.

Thank you for the quick and clear responses that is much appreciated.

The gun is brand new so I cannot see the release being worn.

You could transfer the slide and internals into a hicapa midframe and a hicapa lower receiver, which are two separate parts that together comprise what is currently smoked plastic on your pistol. This would cost more than buying a new pistol though, as I think both parts would be quite difficult to import by yourself.

Hmmm looks like paint it is...I would rather not say the store out of respect. The point of the point of the post wasnt about them.

I have heard about water transfer painting...is it expensive or should I just spray it? Any tips for this?

If you want to go the route of hydro print the best bet is to have it done professionally since it usually isn't all that expensive. I would suggest Hydro Print Canada. Frank has done work on pretty much everything you can think of including airsoft.

Another option is doing the frame in a more resilient coating than just spray paint. You could use Duracoat or Armacoat. I know Armacoat offers full kits for around $60 and they have a good selection of colors. There is another alternative that is simple, cheap and durable. It is Duplicolor Engine Enamel Low Gloss Black DE1634. It is both bake on and air cure and it is pretty much as durable as Duracoat or Armacoat.

You can always keep it cheap and simple and just use some krylon fusion camo paint and a flat clear to finish it off.

I personally think it would be pretty cool to see it done in some kind of hydro print like multicam.

I do agree with the hydro idea. Do you know how much it goes for?

Not sure exactly what Larry would charge for a pistol frame but from what the average prices are I would say between $60-$80. It could be less or maybe more, you would have to ask for a quote but that's what I am guessing.
