GBBRs and range?
Hey
So I've heard here n there that GBBRs tend to have higher than average range than AEGs. I heard explanations different explanations like how the gas expands and acts on the bb differently allowing more/better interaction with the hop up. Or perhaps is it specific GBBRs that have higher than average range due to the hop up design? (like the WE SCAR-L and AK platforms) Thanks |

The hopup rubber used in the WE M4 is the same as the VSR type rubber. So that's one reason. Also the heavier ammunition found in GBBRs should also contribute... I run my C8 with .28 rounds, Modify rubber, for your reference.

Gbbr's make you epic super DEVGRU special forces. So you just become a better shot than those that have mere AEGs.
Actually the hop plays a huge role and when you have 30 rounds per mag you pick your shots and having the heavier bb's helps was well.

The theory is that gas has the potential to create a better range due to the gas expansion, but it's still a theory. Gas guns are still unstable in temperature for the most part with the exception of CO2. A heavier BB can help, but BB weight should be somewhat matched to your FPS level, and has nothing to do with what causes the BB to travel. A WE open bolt is a good start in the gas world, but I'd suggest an RA-Tech custom. Basically they take guns like the WE open bolt, and get rid of the kinks. To this day going FPS for FPS the best range and accuracy I've seen from any weapons would be the Systema PTW, and a Tokyo Marui VSR springer. The best gas platform I've seen is the WE open bolt M14 RA-Tech level III, but that didn't match the range and accuracy of the others. I personally have a Ares AW .338 gas sniper system shooting around 480 FPS, and cannot recreate the distance of my Systema. It'll be hop-up, airseal, quality, and tolerances; matched with FPS and a high grade appropriate BB that'll dictate your distance and accuracy.
If your looking for the be all and end all of distance and accuracy, expect to spend between $1500 - $2500 on an AEG, Springer, or GBBR when all is said and done with upgrades and modifications. If you are on any kind of a budget, I'd suggest an AEG like the KA M4, or if you prefer a scar try the CA Scar. That'll save you from really expensive magazines, upgrades, replacement parts, and all the issues of gas like leaky mags and broken bolt guides.

On a gbbr you can have a heavy bb pass through the hop rubber at the same speed as a lighter one, allowing you to shoot .43s accurately
Whereas an aeg inevitably accelerates heavier ammo slower and slower imparting less hop The ability to effectively use heavier ammo and having higher barrel pressure to stabilize the bb causes better accuracy and range |

Last time I checked mine (WE g39 RAS +NPAS) for a FPS around 360, I was able to hit a torso regularly between 27m and 30m.
It was about 15 degrees outside I'm sure AEG can be a bit more precise than that with the same FPS and more consistent...

You take a stock WE open bolt, put a tightbore, rubber and .3s in it
Pit it against an aeg with 450$ worth of upgrades in 22 degree weather You'll find the gbbr shoots pretty damn good. |

I've had the we m4, the we scar, and the kjw m4.
I found the range to exceed the average aeg at 400 fps .30 gram bbs. But after the hop up spin takes effect on the flight path, the shot consistency goes out the window. The groupings are roughly ten to twenty feet wide after the 150 to 200 foot mark. I found pre hop up flight was just as accurate as any aeg i've had though. Which is why I'd only use gbbrs for cqb. Also to consider is the odd flyer and sometimes a shot will land 20 feet in front of you. All things considered, I get more accuracy, consistency, equal gas consumption and range from a properly tuned double stack gbb pistol. But nothing is more fun than a gbbr on a calm, windless, sunny afternoon

One thing to consider is most people who run aeg tends to run it on auto and with midcaps if not high cap mags (6-12 seems to be the common range on your loadout) When you see GBBR folks, they tend to run semi auto ONLY and with real-low cap and a load out of 4-8 mags.
AEG: 8X 120 = 960bbs on full auto... 900-1500rpm GBB: 6X 40 = 240bbs on semi auto (full auto max out approximately 1000rpm) What's my point? GBBR folks use less bb in general, this mean that heavier weight is typically used instead. I've seen people running 0.40g on standard ( 400fps w/ 0.2g) GBBR. |

The hop spinoff at the end of the flight path is caused by either poor quality hop rubbers or using light ammo
My we pdw shot a good 240ft very accurately with upgraded barrel and hop rubber Its worth noting, that although you're limited by weather, its way cheaper to fully upgrade a KJ/WE GBBR than an AEG Biggest downside to the GBBRs is the cost of the mags. 40-90 vs 8-20 for AEGs |

It shot the equivalent of 408fps on .2s using .28g BBs
I upgraded the barrel and hop rubber, installed an NPAS, and used high quality synthetic grease on all moving parts |

At about 40 feet I'm getting a grouping of ~1 inch with five shot groups. This is with a polished stock barrel and Modify rubber running BBBastards .28
