Lancer Tactical M4 Internals
Wasn't sure where to put this, so move if needed.
Haven't seen any posts around the webernet of Lancer Tactical internals, so I decided to get some shots of mine while I was diggin' around in it. Being completely new to airsoft, I have no idea what anything inside the gearbox is, so if someone could label that stuff for me that's be cool. If anyone wants to see any more detail of anything just let me know and I'll see what I can do. Oh, and sorry for the shit quality, my camera isn't the greatest.\ http://imgur.com/a/Sj79v (Purple wire is my headphones, in case anyone's wondering)

And the piston head is attached to the piston... obviously.
Hop up unit is what your barrel is stuck into. Internals are much less shitty looking than I was expecting. Except for the hop up unit, that made me cringe. The good stuff that I see: -Ported (has a hole in it) cylinder -Spring around the inner barrel instead of a little crappy one on the hop up unit -I think I see bearings on the spring guide -It's not full of alien green snot lube. -metal bearing bushings -No 2nd tooth on the piston -Philips head screws (don't laugh, cheap hex key screws strip super easily and you have to dremel them to get 'em out)

Sweet, thanks for that.
One thing I was wondering about was the selector plate. I was looking up how to convert it to fire semi only, and all the selector plates in the tutorials had connections on them, but this one doesn't, the reason I opened the gearbox at all was to see how the hell it works if it doesn't have that, but I got a bit scared and decided not to go further into it. Is there something I'm missing here? Oh, and not sure if it's standard or what, but the hop-up bucking has a fairly large (to my untrained eye) nub.

Some selector plates have contacts on them to act as a backup safety if the mechanical safety arm fails. The safety in your gun works by when the selector plate is pushed into safe, that little arm moves up and physically blocks the trigger from moving. If you pull hard on the trigger while your gun is in save, the arm can crack and fail.
Why do you want semi-only? You shouldn't do that without upgrades done... if you ride the trigger too much on semi auto, you can lock up the gearbox, which can usually be fixed by switching to auto and firing a burst.

I bought this as a learning gun, and to eventually completely rebuild into a DMR of some sort, so I'm just looking at all the upgrades I'd eventually need for that.
So would it still work the same, with just cutting a little chunk out of the selector plate?

I would advise against making this gun semi-only, including modifying the selector plate.

Why's that? Just for the jamming issues?

Pretty much, yeah. Every gun I've seen on the field that has been tweaked for semi auto only without adjusting the internals as such has left the field locked up.

Is there no way around it? I've read about some MOSFETs that pre-load the spring, would that keep the jamming from happening? (Even though I'm sure it wouldn't be good for the gun)

There are ways around it, yes, but now you're talking expensive upgrades in a super cheap starter gun... it's good to learn the internal workings of an AEG, but if you're serious about upgrading, you would be better off getting a higher quality upgrade platform.

Yeh true. Just thinking out of my ass a bit. Was thinking semi-auto in case i ever wanted to actually field it, though. Isn't it usually a requirement for anything shooting a bit hot?

Aeg is always an aeg. Semi if its got quick response (speed gears & 11.1 lipo) can crank out very many shots per second, can match high torque geared one on a 7.4v battery in full auto.
