Stoner LMG box mag expansion
Anyone every tried increasing the size of the box mag of an LMG before? My Ares Stoner only holds 1,100 rounds which is about 25% the ammo of other LMGS out there. Alot of our local Milsims have a 1 box mag rule for LMGS, so this is a huge disadvantage....

there isnt a way to increase the size,
however you might want to do the "waterbottle" trick that a lot of guys do. pour fresh bbs into the mag? |

GBBR carrying spare ammo is against the rules apparently. So guys with bigger box mags get more BBs. Idiotic if you ask me...

I don't know about dinky.
I own the G&P Mk23/Stoner 63 version, with a 1200 round box mag. The original 1960's version of your major update 1990's Stoner design. The real steel Stoner 63 came with a box mag holding 100 rounds, or less common drum holding 150 rounds. It may well have been capable of belted ammo for larger load-outs, but it wasn't used in that configuration very much. As Off-Kilter has already said.. you want an LMG.. get a GPMG like an M240 or M249 or similar. The Stoner's are/were a lighter weight variant support gun used for suppressive fire to break off engagements/offensive fire support, and is/was considerably lighter than it's newer brethren. The Stoner 63 saw limited use in the Vietnam era through to the mid-1980's in the US Navy.. the newer Knights Armament Stoner which you have, is essentially a Contractor's weapon for those who want more firepower than an M4, but don't want to lug the weight of a M240/M249. A scaling of 10 BB's to 1 rounds IRL, IMHO is reasonable.. particularly so for Milsims with this weapon type. Mine's going on an ATV.. and it's the perfect size and weight for that. I'll gladly go along with any ammo restrictions related to it. I've taken it to two 6-hour skirmishes so far, without a box-mag refill .. there is still lots of rounds left in there now, for a third skirmish. Last edited by HackD; July 11th, 2013 at 18:37.. |

Most games round here limit lmg's to 1000 rounds and rifles to 300.
Why not talk to local organizers and get them to come up with a round number instad of "one box mag" what about the dudes who run there lmg's on m4 mags, they limeted to the same as a rifleman or do they have a higher limit like 1000 or something?. Should be more formal what of the guys runnin rpks or using nutsac mags for their lmg's it just makes more sense to put a number on it not a mag limit. Its like telling guys they can carry a max of 10 mags instead of 300 rounds. Then all the gbbr and realcap dudes will run with 300 rounds and lotta folks will grab the biggest midcaps they can find and push 1000 rounds or more. Not really fair or realistic. As for they waterbottle comment. That would be against the rule of "one box mag" also i hope guys arent doing that at the games i attend with ammo limits cause id he prety pissed off and would make a big stink about it.

Yea we run an 8 mid cap mag limit, or unlimited low caps or 1 box mag. But with mid caps running between 100 and 190 rounds these days, and box mags going from 1100 to 6000 rounds its pretty loosey goosey. I could easily get more ammo running with 8 mid caps than my one box mag, shame my gun won't take mid caps....
Also for the record. Ares LIES about the weight of the 96 Stoner. Stated weight is 4.2kg, throw it on a scale and its more like 7 which is 1kg lighter than an A&K 249. Frankly for that little difference I would have taken the 249 for the extra 2000 rounds. |

10:1 is a bit generous, but I agree that the ratio of BBs to bullets is definitely not 1:1.
The stoner has many advantages over a m249... it's lighter, it's smaller, and it has semi auto. I think those tradeoffs are rather fair for less ammo capacity. Quote:

ARES says 3.4kg for theirs, which I agree sounds like a downright LIE. The G&P is 4.6kg. And the A&K 249 weighs as little as the CA at a measly 6.6kg The G&P 249 is the real beast, similar to real steel weight at 7.6kg unloaded and 8.6kg fully loaded. The stoner 96 has no semi. It is rock-n-roll only. I swear the weight when put on a scale was 6+kg. |
