KJW1911 Poor Gas Efficiency---Like suck ass...efficiency....

As the post says.

I have a bone stock KJW 1911. This is nearly new. I have 3 mags. 2 are C02 one is Green gas.

Mags are NOT leaking

When the gun fires it spews out gas pretty good and the amount of shots I can get out of it is pathetic.

I am zeroing in on the issue I think. This is a YouTube video I found. Ya ya, its a bit on and on, put he seems to be hitting points:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81PBU0Igf84

Are there others who have a 1911 with similar problems.

If so, can you tell me what you do to fix it.

I pulled mine apart last night. Did the whole thing, cleaned it, etc etc.

There is no sign of obvious cracks etc anywhere. I did lube up the piston head with MadBull Silicone grease and it did seem a bit better.

Any input would be helpful.

Thanks,

Trev

Piston might be cracked/broken. That's the most common issue I've seen with spewing gas or poor gas consumption.

And no, sometimes its not obvious and you can't see the crack.

When I come across one of these doing the gas wasting thing, I first change the piston head to an aluminum Dyna Piston head. That usually gets the amount of shots per mag up from 9 or 10 to 20 or so.

Ok, that's 2 who seem to agreeing with this symptom. Again, this is NEAR NEW.

No, (but I am not counting the 900 rounds). I am talking like 200 shots max, and I am being fair.

So

1) Is there a replacement o ring anyone has tried here?
2) Is there a place in Canada who stocks a upgraded piston for this thing?

Sorry for the laziness. I have been online looking. Again, ask me about an AEG with a V2 and you are in my end of the pool.

I asked on the o ring as I know you can get O rings that fit nice from Lowes for the V2 piston.

If this is a stupid question for GBB and Pistol world, my apology.

EDIT

I just saw venture airsoft web site above and took a peak.....setting up an account tonight.

Case closed---thanks.

Order is in to Venture now for the piston head. (and of course other shit to make the shipping make sense)---ouch.

Will post here when I plop that piston head in. I am fairly sure the stock KJW piston head is....well, quite simply a piece of shit.

If this does not work, then when I am playing at my field, I will just grab my rubber knife.

Thanks again everyone.

Trev, not piston head, I was talking about the piston/nozzle/loading nozzle itself.

Most commonly I've found this issue to be the piston head either dried up or damaged. It MAY have been solved simply with some silicon oil.

I will be hanging on to the old piston head. Sorry.

Yes the silicone grease may have acted like a Band-Aid, but my gut is saying something else.

The nozzle is made with injection molding. With this process, there can be shrinkage either with the part or the cavity.

So what I am saying is the clearance between the piston o ring and the plastic cylinder is not exactly a tight tolerance set up. Especially amplified when you are trying to make an air seal.

I want to see what the size of the new piston head is. As well as OD of the head vs Stock.

Will get out gage lab here are work to measure this. They can measure 0.0001 of an inch all day long.

Will let you know the spread if it is reportable.

Tomorrow I will bring the cylinder in and get them to pin check the ID of it for size as well.

This is a common problem on KJ 1911 Trev. My Baer 1911 made by KJW is the same way, but I found that I could actually get 2 full mags on one co2 when I cut down the return spring by two coils. Also, if its really bad on gas, and not always cycling fully, I bet something isnt right with the nozzle. Either its cracked, or a oring is bad.

I just bought a KJW 1911a1 and have put 1000 rounds through it with Co2 with no problems as of yet. I'm getting around 2 3/4 clips per cylinder with cleaning and silicone oil being used after each outing. I'll post if anything changes.

I have a similar problem with my KJW 1911. I was getting about 15 shots until the gas ran out, now I'm literally getting 2 shots every time. The first shot is good, second is very slow, and I get nothing for a third shot. The slide will move back about 1/3-1/2 way after the second shot.

Mainly posting to sub. I'm curious to see what the problem is with OP's.

EDIT:

Little update on the issue with my 1911. I disassembled it today, and inspected all the parts. The piston head on mine is actually fine. The issue seems to be the "nozzle". Inside of it there is this blue piece of plastic with a spring around it, and this piece is held in with a small pin. The nozzle is cracked right where the pin is. I'm going to try and find a replacement and report back.
