WE Scar-L open bolt GBB dead out of box?

Hello all,

I recently purchased a WE Scar-L Open bolt, and there seems to be something wrong with it (or me )

After loading the mag, charging the bolt, and I pull the trigger, the weapon fires but does not cycle fully.

In short, once I fire, the bolt slams back as it should but it does not reset the trigger? or so it would seem. This is my first GBB rifle and cannot seem to figure out what is going on. I read on some sites that the disconnector needs to be either worn in buy firing around 10 mags worth on full auto, or filed. I have fired at least 10 mags worth of BB's and at least another 10 dry.

Still the same issue as out of the box. Charge, fire once, tigger does not work again.
(Full auto will work as long as I hold the trigger. Once I release, that's it.)

Does anyone have a definitive answer??

Bought it from a store? I'd say return it while you still can.

WE trigger boxes are notorious for having some issues. I had a CQBR that worked just fine until I was about 16 mags in and the trigger stopped resetting when firing on semi. I was able to easily reset the trigger with the light tap of my finger on the back side of the trigger, however after one or two shots it would "stick" again. Never had the issue on full auto though.

Like Styrack has noted, if this was a brand new gun you should return it immediately and either have them fix the issue or give you a new gun before too much time goes by and you're no longer eligible for return/exchange.

As I'm almost certain it is an issue within the trigger box (either the hammer or something else catching on something as small as a little burr) if you want to do this yourself I would recommend a CWI trigger assembly. RA-Tech gives people problems (only what I hear, I have never used an RA-Tech trigger assembly).

The best guy to talk to about gas gun problems is turok. Dude knows his shizzle.

Hope this helps.

This gun was to be my winter project gun in which i was going to swap out the stock internals with upgraded parts, so I was not worried so much about returning it right away. In truth, the statement above combined with the fact that my Wife and I just had a baby last month, greatly lessens the chance I get the time to drive into Toronto.

I work in Engineering and have no fear that I can't do the work myself, I simply wanted to know if I should keep firing it until it cycles properly, replace what is likely the cause (tigger assy as Zack suggested), or if I needed to do some internal repair work (filing, disassemble etc).

For now I think I may strip out the trigger assy and disassemble it to investigate. Worst case scenario is that I purchase the trigger assy upgrade before any others on my list.

I really wanted to get the stock parts working though so I would have a benchmark to compare to as the new parts get installed.

In that case I would swap the trigger assembly for CWI bits. You won't be disappointed if you do.

Overall the OEM WE parts aren't bad. They hold up alright and even when they do break are cheap to replace (the plastic nozzles come to mind).

Really you don't need to swap anything out until it breaks, even if you want to upgrade, as the RA-Tech and CWI parts aren't going to give you a drastic improvement on performance; they just tighten up the tolerances a bit and give you a little more recoil with heavier steel parts (which can actually cause more breakage in other areas that are made of pot metal).

Aren't you suppose to charge the bolt first and then load a mag? Otherwise it will be like you mentioned. That's how it works on my scar-l

Not according to the WE manual. It clearly states in step 1 to load the mag into the lower receiver, step 2 is charge the handle.

In any event, I stripped out the trigger assy and ran a file across the trigger and the disconnector and popped it back in. After I did that, I then could reset the trigger myself by pushing on the rear of the trigger. After firing 2 mags worth of BB's, it now works perfectly. Then the fire select button fell off and the spring and ball bearing fell out.... :banghead:

The ball bearing was fun to try to find...nothing a powerful rare earth magnet couldn't solve.... Take that, high traffic carpet!

And thanks to Tys for the PM, very helpful.
