Hop-up Nub with PDI W Bucking

Looking for suggestions on what nub to use with a PDI W Bucking?

Thanks

Standard one. Pretty sure they're meant to be used with a regular round one.

By standard one, you mean the Cylinder style, like below?

I use the modify flat nub, and have used a home made flat nub (eraser) as well. I read somewhere that an SCS actually works well with it, but I have yet to try it.

Sort of off topic

Does anyone else get FPS drops from these rubbers? I've always had a 15-30 FPS drop when I install one of these rubbers and never a problem with any other hop up setup.

Using a flat hop nub defeats the purpose of using a PDI rubber.

In order to use a flat nub correctly you have to take a standard rubber and shave the mound to get the correct contact surface with the flat nub. Again, completely defeats the purpose of the large W mound in the PDI rubber.

Normal cylinder nub is just fine with the PDI rubber. I get the best results out of all rubbers I have experimented with using PDI W-Hold rubbers, save for R-Hop which I have yet to install/use in my AEG.

If you have the time and patience, R-Hop is the bees knees, but the PDI W-Hold is the next best thing.

Bridge hop is the next best thing, followed by flat hop. They are similar in premise to the G-hop. I've never kept a PDI W-hold in a gun for more than a week, and I also get FPS drops from them even after teflon sealant and teflon tape.

I could be wrong as in my AEG I have zero air seal problems with the W-Hold, but the FPS drop (to my knowledge and experience) comes from the larger mound of the W-Hold, causing more friction on the BB. I've never had any performance issues with them regarding air seal and when I turn hop all the way off my FPS goes right up to what it should be at around 395+/-2FPS.

Maybe I'm lucky?

I know I get the same results with my GBBRs using the PDI, and same thing when I use the Reaps A+ rubber. When I engage hop to the right setting I get around a 12FPS drop with both rubber types. Doesn't affect range or accuracy in any negative fashion, only dat +.

What spring are you using to get 395 FPS? With a perfect air seal you can do that with a M100. I think the FPS drops are from the opening in the middle, as the BB is passing through the hop up rubber air escapes through that. That's my theory anyway.

Aside from the FPS loss the rubbers shoot decently well.

I won't use PDI's because I get the 15-30fps drop as well - teflon slightly improves it but i wont use anything but prometheus purples - hands down simply the best.

Also if that pdi is slightly tilted left or right you're going to get more curves than a penningtons location. Fuck that noise.

Edit: my assumption is that pdi's may not mesh with certain air nozzles. My prediction is Stealth will chime in soon.

Haha, funny you mention Stealth; he built my AEG from scratch. ;-)

To answer OP's question - I've always use a round nub with it - it's what the sleeve was designed for. Whether or not it would work better with other nubs, I haven't experimented enough with to comment.

Regarding air loss - it's entirely possible that it's not compatible with specific air nozzle and/or hop-up units. Keep in mind that the chamfer of the hop-up unit is critical for air seal and if your sleeve was not designed to accomodate for that chamfer profile - you'll get air leaks.

Everybody is going to get different results depending on the combination of parts used but I have had good results with SHS/ZCI nozzles + Lonex hop unit + PDI W-Hold.

Rabbit is absolutely right - the PDI W-Hold is very sensitive to rotational deviation but if set correctly, is quite good.
