Safe to remove bushings?

Hey all,

I've got a used G&G V3 gearbox with 6mm bearings that seem to have failed (don't spin very well and make a grinding noise). I want to switch them out with solid steel bushings since they're a 6mm design, but the old bearings don't seem to want to pop out.

I don't see any epoxy or glue around them, but they are good and stuck in the GB. Is there a safe way to remove them without damaging the GB, or if they are glued, am I boned with trying to remove them?

Thanks for any suggestions

Use a small phillips head and try to tap them out. If they're stuck or you think they might be glued, try applying some rubbing alcohol to see if it will loosen up w/e adhesive that might be there.

Maybe try a heatgun and a centre punch if you have one.

Why don't you just use say a round piece of half inch brass pipe or something similar. Use the pipe to support the gearbox near the bushing. Then use a punch and some gentle taps to remove the bushing.

Or just get a small block of wood that will fit inside the gearbox shell. Drill a hole that is bigger than the bushing. Then use the wood as a support for the gearbox. Then you can hammer the bushing out and it will fall right into the hole you drilled.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll try the suggestions. I hope it's not JB welded into place.

G&G usually press fits their bushings. The only company I know of that actually glues them in place is VFC.

Use a pin punch and hammer it out. Hex or Torx keys work too.

Punch or socket head screw that is under 6mm.
Piece of wood, preferably small (around 1" dia). Drill a 3/8" hole in and use it to punch the bearing out. Works all the time can you won't break the mechbox shell (unless you slip and hammer the mechbox instead of the bearing)

Awesome, thanks guys! And thanks for tip presto, I didn't see any epoxy residue around the bearings, so good to know it's just press fit.

And I'll definitely use the block of wood method.

Thanks again everyone!
