Converting an SD6 to A5? (+ swordfish)
Hello !
I'm currently looking into modding my G&G MP5 SD6 with a more practical handguard, like the A5's RIS. It seems though that the handguard by itself won't fit and I need to change the front end. Is that correct? If so, are there conversion kits made for that? The long term result also includes installing a swordfish kit on my MP5. In fact that was the initial goal but it seems the SD6 isn't a good fit for that so I'd need to convert its front end beforehand. If you have suggestions/advices/ideas/etc. on that subject, as well as info on where I could find the necessary part, it would be much appreciated (You can also try to persuade me it's a bad idea ! I'm still new to the MP5...) Thanks ! |

I do have a TM MP5A4 model, that i converted over to a Swordfish, some time back. It was not a direct-bolt on parts exercise - at least with the Cyma RIS/replacement barrel that i sourced from airsoftdepot. The gas tube/cocking assembly slung under the replacement barrel needed some profiling/shaving with a Dremel, and the RIS itself needed some profiling of the front of the RIS - it was slightly too long. Pretty straight-forward exercise. http://airsoftdepot.ca/catalog/produ...oducts_id=1536 I think i sourced the Swordfish parts from ehobbyasia at the time, but can't remember for sure. Once the RIS mods were done, the Swordfish front/spine were a straight-forward bolt-on affair. I have a Lipo butterfly in the RIS, to power the gun, when using an A5(?) slider-stock, but i've also got an A4 full stock for it as well (as pictured below). I had initially set it up as a PDW'ish looking MP5 with the Cyma RIS, and added the Swordfish front/spine onto it later. It might be better to keep an eye out on the classifieds and try to source a cheapish dead/needing work A4/A5 TM-compatible model, if you acquire the parts necessary to do the Swordfish modification. I don't know if G&G's version is directly TM-compatible. |

The SD6 is a complete front-end modification, so it can't be modified except for additions to the already existing chassis.

is your a top tech sd6?
all you need to do is strip it down to the gas tube and barrel G&G is kind to build their SD6 around the original MP5, you still have the option to convert it back well at least on mines

Yes I do have a top tech sd6 ^^ I'll try to find an A5 front end on the cheap and see if the modif can be done. From what I gathered, I'll need a G&G front end because they're not standard. Other than that I'll keep researching ! Thanks for the answers guys !
