Revolutionary shotgun idea, Maybe?
the airsoft m203 grenade launcher in reality is just a under barrel shotgun that uses a 50+ $ mad bull round and is only good for one shot.
Now scale the size of the mad bull round down to the size of a shotgun shell and take the most expensive part out, (the self contained gas in the shell) and move it in to the gun it's self. make the reloading like a real shotgun and make it action like a pump. gas will be used through a Co2/HPA setup line. different chokes could be used to adjust bb spray and scatter.(maybe) shels can shoot around 48 bb if there are 4 containing holes (room clearer) shels with lesser loads can be viable because of the abs and rubber construction of the shell. maybe 5-9 dollers each? ill make some auto desk inventer files to help my idea. |

Both Tanaka Shell eject, PPS Shell eject and APS shell eject shotguns work very nicely.
The newer TM 6-shot shotgun is exactly what you are describing. Also, Russian crazy dudes converted some real Remington shotguns to fire 40-50 BBs from a real shotgun cartridge, pushing CO2 from the stock into the hole for the primer. They fire 40+ BBs at around 400fps. |

Something similar to this has been done, but it's a good idea.
The issue with shotguns was always a balance between either getting range or getting realism. A.S.S. and at least two other companies have slug/buckshot shotguns or conversions. Issues normally being expensive shells or projectiles, self contained gas, obvious lack of any hopup. I'd focus on a 3 tube design (remember more tubes means more BBs but more gas force to propel them and less gas efficiency). Groove in an O-ring at the front to hold the BBs, and taper the hole at the back to hold them in but allow gas to come in. Tapering can be easily done by just not drilling all the way through. Have the same design idea for a slug shell, but make it take re-balls instead of custom making rubber slugs. I'd go with a dual gas design, allowing you to either run multiple 12g CO2 canisters, or the HPA line. The marui 6-shot is close, but still works on a 3-barrel design. Probably very accurate, good price, but no major scatter and no slug capability. The Tanaka is crazy expensive and has the gas in the shells Best I can tell the APS fires BB loaded sabots instead of working like a 40mm shell Last edited by ThunderCactus; March 2nd, 2015 at 20:31.. |
