How to make a G&G CM16 Raider last?

Hey,

Sure, some might not want to answer this because they're thinking "Get a ______ or _______ instead", but I'm a little low on cash and am stuck with what I got. That's not a bad thing, I love the raider and intend to play many more games with it before getting myself a VFC or something. That being said, what can I do to my raider now so it lasts me a very long time while I save up?

What parts should I replace and with what? Piston head? Gears? Motor? I'm new to all that stuff.

Depends... are you looking for performance upgrades or just to make it last longer? If you're short on cash then I'd definitely follow the "don't fix it if it ain't broke" philosophy. Then you can keep saving that money towards a better gun.

There's a lot of talk about the gearbox being the weakest spot in the G&G's but that's a lot of work, especially if you don't know what you're doing.

If yours is a blowback model you may want to disable that and get a lower spring as it puts unnecessary wear and tear on the gun.

Replace the hop-up and nozzle, in fact, get an R-hop. Depending on its stock FPS you may want to bump it up slightly so it can handle a 0.28g round nicely. Between 380 - 400 FPS with a 0.20g is well balanced. But Hop-up is number one. Your G&G should be able to reach out to 200 feet accurately if done right. At least it'll be a good, usable gun.

You likely don't have to do anything to the mechbox, but having it properly greased, shimmed and maintained will extend its life. Get a solid and well known gun doc to do this for you. They may even be able to R-Hop your gun.

Run the motor till it dies, that's just the way. Things you can do is to ensure its adjusted properly and use good quality batteries. Turnigy-Nanotech batteries are excellent and only about $8.99US from Hobbyking.com. Make sure to buy the right cell size, voltage and milliamperes. A solid balance charger is also necessary. Hobby king sells the IMAX B6 for around $35 US. You can't go wrong. Make sure to order from the US warehouse option when ordering from them.

Other things you can do is to make sure you buy quality magazines and BBs, which is something you can do anyways, but will help in avoiding excess pressure on your gun while cycling. Not having BBs chop and avoiding feeding issues not only has a huge effect on performance, but can save your parts.

This will make your G&G competitive and last as long as possible. When something does finally go on it, you'll likely only need to replace that part, not many airsoft guns completely die and go in the trash. If the motor craters, replace the motor, etc.

I have run one of these for 5 years with no issues, everyone said they aren't very good but I always hear them bitchin about their broken guns. Clean it regularly especially if you have been playing outside or in a dusty area. Lube it often, anything that moves keep it lightly lubed and use the right lubricants. Install a mosfet as soon as you can as this will protect the trigger switch. Don't abuse it, and if you don't know what abuse means learn because you don't know how many guys i see shooting their guns with no bb's or think their toy is a Real Steel. And lastly if you have the urge to modify it remember the weakest part will always break first...

but u were asking for what gun is better etc...

to answer this thread, it's been said before. Use it till it breaks. Unless you completely know what you are doing, you might end up breaking it faster by opening up the GB.

Don't use lipo above 7.4, don't drop you gun too much, don't bang your barrel. That's really about it. Maybe a mosfet.
