What size drill bit for a 14mm tap?

One of my boys, Quantis, is looking to start making some homemade supressors, I got him the 1.5" aluminum bar stock, figured I'd slice it and have it bored for him since he has little in the way of metal working tools. I don't have a tap to go by, so I figured I'd ask on here so I can tell the machinist what size bit to use to bore it properly, then I'll cut the slices.

Thanks

Stalker

Thanks Carl, just found this as well:

Have to sort out what tap it is, wasn't aware of 14 x 1.5, 14 x 2.0, etc. Guess it's safe to go by a ~12mm drill bit.

I got it checked. The threads are 14mm x 1 (Left or right hand depending on gun)

Asked the machinist if he could bore the peice of 6061 aluminum with a 12.Xmm (SAE equivalent) drill bit, that should be good enough. No idea when he'd be able to do it though, they are pretty busy in there these days. Might be done now, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week. Don't want to pressure him for it, so I'll check next week.

I can confirm the threads are 14mm x 1.0 usualy CCW. Just for your information the tap and DIe set for CCW ( 1 tap+ 1 die) is about 300$ with a 1 month lead time. For CW thread it's about half that price. Only one compagnie has them listed in their chatalog, but most toolmaker will cut custom taps for you but as with all cuistom stuff it's going to be a killer...Better off making then on the lathe if you only plan on making a few.

as for drill size:

14mm x 2.0 ---> 12.0 mm
14mm x 1.5 --->12.5 mm
14mm x 1.0 ---> 12.5 mm

Good info to have. Bawbag said he has a 14mm CCW (or CW, can't recall) tap that he bought, and chances are high that he didn't pay a lot for it, he's not even 20 yet!! Wonder where he got it from. Still, this is turning out to be a somewhat useful thread.
