painting tricks ?

anyone has a website or anything related to : painting airsoft guns for dummies ??

First , I hate M4s if they're not special. an Desert painted M4 is interesting for me , so I wish I could paint it if I ever buy one but....just don't know how :?

any help would be appreciated !

there are quite a few verry detailed threads on painting guns do a search. i belive there was several verry good threads about sniper rifle painting, also there was a thread about armourcoat or somthing like that not to long ago, it aparently comes with stencils and all that stuff to make it super easy. somone can correct me on that one it would be great.

So you're looking to paint your M4 desert colours?

Your best bet would be to run to your local Canadian Tire or hardware store and buy the "Krylon Camo Paint System" spray paints. They come in your typical spray can, and have "military" colours. They do have a tan and dark brown that you can use for the desert colours. The reason why I, and many others, suggest this paint is because it is meant for hard use, and trust me, it works great.

I just finished painting another rifle with Acrylic paints, and it wasn't something that I'd want to do again. The simple act of holding the gun was enough to cause the paint to get damaged. It took a severe amount of clear coat to protect the finish, and still I'm not exactly sure of it. One coat of the Krylon paint is enough to last though.

As for tips:
- Clean the paint surface with alcohol (or atleast soap and water). Once you have cleaned it, do not handle it with your bare hands if possible. The simple oils from your hands will affect how the paint sticks to the surface.

- Depending on the type of material you are painting on, you might need to lightly sand the surface. If you are using the Krylon Paints, you probably won't have to, as that paint adheres to the surface very well.

- Do not break apart the gun for painting. Keep it intact. Just be sure to mask up the inner barrel, and the mag well. Also if you have an optics on it, just be sure to mask up the lenses. It's best to keep everyone on the gun that you'd have while playing. This is so that things flow together nicely.

- When spraying, don't spray it so wet that it glosses. You want to spray so that it's between spotty and glossy. You'll get it once you start spraying. Keep the spray can atleast 6 inches away (normally I keep it 12 inches away). Two light coats is much better than 1 heavy coat.

- Paint the lightest colour first. Then proceed with the next darker colour, etc.

these are really good tips. my main question was about removing the internals and stuff and you answered that its not necessary, just mask the inner barrel and magwell . pretty much easier like that. do you have pics of guns you painted ? that would probably help me a lot.

Haha Dman that has to be one of the best spoted jobs i have seen! That QUALITY. There is something to be said for doing things properly and not rushing it. EVERYTHING to do with my gun isntdone because its the fastest way and available now, but because its the best i can do with what i got. Same with vehicles and not servicing them. Garbage in garbage out. Stellar job man!

The paintjob is stellar. It's dead on to what Cadpat looks like. However, on a gun, it just doesn't look good. (In my opinion)
