Heavier BB's w PDI 170?
Someone just put out a thread similar to this but for KJW M700 and I didn't want to steal their thead so here's mine.
Setup is... G3SG1 with PDI 170 spring, PSG1 6.03 mm (or maybe .04?) barrel, and some other stuff that doesn't really affect fps. Never had it chronied, but with the trusty pop can, I'm guessing somewhere close to 420 ish with .20g (can just, just completely puncture the bottom centre). Currently I can hit a crouched man size target 50% of the time at 160 feet. I've been using .25's for gaming, but am wondering, is it practical to use a heavier weight? Maybe crank my hop a bit more, and hopefully I'll get better shots off. I mean, heavier bb means more momentum means will carry on further (though muzzel velocity is reduced I know). I've done some basic physics to work out (hopefully) the predicted fps with heavier weights and run some stuff out on one of those airsoft trajectory calculators and it seems to be better to go with the heavier bb, even if the range is theoretically the same, a heavier bb should give me better accuracy. I'm just worried that my bb will be brusing my hop too much and that'll throw things off. Any suggestions or info? Thanks Alex

BB weights are like cover letters... you can't use the same one all the time because sometimes they just don't make the right kind of impact. Get a number of weights together and play at least an hour with each. Considering the power of your gun, try 0.2s all the way up 0.3s. Only you can say what's best for the environment you play in and your style of play.

I'd say try a bottle of 0.28g. I believe Illusion has some in stock. Considering it's an AEG, it's not worth buying the 0.29g Super Grand Master BBs, but 0.28g might just be right up your alley. Then again, since you are in Japan, SGM should be cheap.
Heavier BBs (like under 0.30g) will benefit you a fair bit, they will travel farther and have less deviation from wind and air resistance than the 0.25g will, so heavier will be better for you (hey, I use 0.30g BBs in my KSC Glock 19, and can hit a guy most of the time 120ft out.............). Your hop up setting will only be slightly higher than with 0.25g, and you might want to invest in the Guarder 50% clear hop up rubber, it'll last a while and is great for precision guns. |

With a PDI170, and other things, your gun is overpowered for most games here. Dont know about Japan.
Have it chronied properly. |

A normal PDI 170% spring puts out around 390fps. By normal I mean not one of the crappy PDI springs that are longer than other and made of thicker wire. Those can put out upwards of 450fps from what I've heard. Same with PDI 150% springs, the good ones will shoot around 350fps, but the stupid crappy ones upwards of 420fps. QC has gone to hell at PDI the past couple years (almost like they are putting out the practice springs that new employees make before they are qualified), I turn people away from them now.
