Star mags for m16
Anyone use the 30rd Locaps by STAR. I see them on 007airsoft.com for 90 bucks for 10 magazines. Despite there low capacity, are they actually good? I know they have a plastic magazine, instead of the metal like TM, but i cant stand my stupid Hicap. Which if anyone wants to trade me a locap or a few for it, PM me. I have a thread in the Wanted section. (Sorry if that shouldnt be said outside of the wanted section, also sorry if this should be in accesories, i assumed a magazine as an integral part of the gun)

There are some posts around for em, their okay and hold a couple more BB's than 30 so the two or three you lose that dont feed in every mag are not taken from the 30 rounds. I've got 20 of the 20 round ones for my G3 and just bought another 10 for my M733 for a total of 20.
Its actually cheaper to get em from ehobbyasia as the cost after shipping and customs is still less than the cost of them from a Canadian retailer + tax + shipping. Or pick em up from the sale section, they pop up from time to time for cheap. You just have to know that when ehobbyasia says "combined shipping" they dont mean "discount on multiple items" as every time I order the just add all the shipping costs together. If you order a certain amount they also send it EMS instead of regular post. |

i have 10 of the 20rnd star mags. cant complain. they work great, and they are cheap enough that you can dump them in the dirt and not worry.

I bought a bunch of the G3 20-rounders for my SAR M41FS but they wouldn't fit the body. There's a raised tab on the rear of the mag right at the top that was too thick and needed to be shaved down to fit the mag well. A minor mod and they fit perfectly now and look fantastic. I can't tell them apart from my CA hicap without picking them up. Right now they only spit out 17 rounds though hopefully they'll "break in" like the M16 mags are known to do and accept the full 20 round capacity. If I'm playing a realcap game though I'm not worried about 3 rounds.
I've also got a pile of the M16 mags, some of which have given me feed problems though some of them I bought used. I'm hoping a shot of silicone lube will fix them up, that usually does the trick. |

The star 30rounders are quite good, just be careful if and when you're painting them, because if you lay it on too think it gets stuck and takes 100 inserts and extracts to get it smooth and working again.

A quick visual reference for you guys contemplating the Star G3 mags:
This was a fast hack job I did with a pocket knife. A Dremel with the appropriate tool would be a lot cleaner and faster, unfortunately my buddy has mine. Again. The mod doesn't need to be major, the raised area just needs to be flush with the part below it. I experimented crudely with these because I got them for $5 a piece brand new, so if I screwed one up it wasn't a big loss. |

Thanks Gryphon, didnt know it was that easy, just gotta get my dremel back from the warranty place, brand new 400 XPR with a faulty power cable, should be back by the time I get my SAR anyway.

I got the Power Fist brand tool from Princess Auto for Christmas a while ago. Not a very fancy tool, but its speed adjustment is positive and precise (newer models now have an LED RPM readout), it's inexpensive, pretty good quality, comes with a flex shaft and tool set, and best of all it's from Princess Auto. If it ever breaks just take it back and get a new one, no questions asked.

Christmas present.
Princess Auto is great, I bought a three ton Arbor press about ten years ago from them. Used it maybe two or three times, figured someone else would get more use out of it than me. Took it back, no receipt, some eight years later, they refunded me my money no problem. *AHEM* back to the topic at hand.... Does anyone have a good way to clean out dirt and much from Star mags? There's no way to (practicallyt) disassemble them and a few I got had dried mud caked up inside. I tossed them into a bowl of hot sopay water and that seemed to work. |

you could try duster it might blow any contaminates out of the mag. it has worked for my mags. just stick the plastic tube inside the mag and remember to hold the can upright as your not filling the mag this time.
