How would an AK-47s fair in CQB?

I have been looking around for a good cqb weapon and previously had my sights on either an MP5k or and MP5SD6. But lately I got to thinking that an AK-47s might be a better choice, so I can let friends borrow my other AEG (a regular AK-47) if the need comes for outdoor games. I would like to know how compact it is in CQB scenarios, because if it doesnt work all that great, then I wont be getting one.

Thanks in advance.

A bit of research on www.wgcshop.com will give you alot of answers.

With stocks collapsed:
AK47s - 641mm
MP5SD6 - 603mm
MP5K - 315mm

That gives you an idea how compact it is relative to your other choices. Either go try one locally first, or break out the measuring stick and ask yourself how long of a gun do you feel like carrying.

Personally, I'd go with the SD6. Compact mags, sliding stock, good battery capacity (9.6 1500+ fits in the grip), and the suppressor is mildly functional.

Honestly if you're going to be using it specifically for CQB, and you're keen on an AK, you might wanna look into a AKS-74U. The Guarder conversion is ludicrously expensive, but the VFC (GB-Tech) AKS-74UN is priced quite nicely for an all metal gun, and being in the US you could easily pick one up from Airsoft Extreme, or AirSplat, or a number of other retailers.

An AKS is fine for CQB - M4's without shorty front ends are still being used... So a folded AKS would be fine. the only think I see being a problem is using your shoulder + stock to pivot the gun in position after an entry (since it would be folded)

if you are willing to stray away from your ak type gun then a G36c will also do you very well....

Or you could look at the Marui Spetz. It's not too big for the job.

As long as your willing to hipshoot for really closein stuff, AKs's work amazing. The folding stock is essentially useless though and will break off in a matter of weeks.

I think it depends on your size mostly. Some big guys will say M16 size guns fits best for them and smallers guns just don't.

i used a AK for my first game and it was indoor it was fine its shorter then a M16 and shorter then my gun (G3-SG1). the AK full size is not bad takes alittle practice to use it but not bad.

You'll be fine. I've seen an M60 in CQB once It actually worked pretty good. Scared the hell out of people.

When the CQB training you took was with a Mauser or Lee Enfield, anything works for you.

I've used my Dragunov look-a-like in CQB... that's about 1.5 meter of rifle and I did fine...It's all a mather of getting used to the rifle your going to use.. Actually the US military first description for the m16a1 was as a light weight close quarter weapon.

TM SIG552 is also a very good choice for a CQB gun...if I am not off the topic.
Gun comes with folding stock; you can also fit an AN-PEQ2 battery box on the 20mm side rail with a 9.4V 1700mah battery to achieve an awesome rate of fire. The Version 3 mech box will give you the reliability that you will expect it should.
