Good job...I am the owner of two AKs (TM AK-47 and G&G AK-104), planing to give my TM AK a new look. But probably ending up turning it into a RPK. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so enjoy!

Looks neat, but why would you put the red dot on the optics rail if you have room for it over the handguard? Red dots are meant to be mounted as far out as possible to increase FOV and improve pointability. Some AR-15 users will put their Aimpoint or EOTech just behind the front sight tower if they have a rail there. Give it a try.

Are you sure about that Red dot mounting there Gryphon!? The closer a red
dot sight is to your head the bigger the FOV is through it and therefore lets
you move the gun around more and still be able to see the dot and take aim.

Ditto on that, the closer the better. As it gets farther, not only is the sight picture smaller, it also gets harder to quickly center the dot in view.

The theory of putting the RDS in the front is so that your not looking through it like a scope but more like better and faster iron site.

But in the end its all personal preference.

go with a 3-9x, helps for outdoor milsims where you want to be able to see WAY up there.

Incorrect on the FOV. Move the red dot close to your eye and see how much of the body of the red dot is obstructing your view. Then move it to arms length and see. It is not a magnified, parallax-free optic so you gain nothing by having it close to your eye. It is also more accurate at the end of your barrel - think about it, if you had no rear sight where would you want your front sight to be?

EDIT - I also noticed the RDS sits very high atop the mount which adds to inaccuracy by raising the sight plane high off the bore. From the photo it looks like at least a good four inches. That means you either need to zero so your impact point is four inches below your aiming point, or have the two meet at a certain range and close shots before the zero range will be below the aiming point, whereas far shots will be above it. The end result is more missed shots.

For the record I'm not criticizing your setup, just trying to help you with something you may find more effective.
