Talking FPS Limits on Indoor and Outdoor Fields?

Hello,

As I stated in my re-intro post in the General Section, the last time I played was 2003 or maybe 2004 and well, I see that many things on ASC and the world have changed - and no, I wasn't in a comma.

I remember when I used to play the limit at indoor games was roughly 350fps - unless they did that "HK Style" crazy shit when the guys used to run 400fps+ and point-blank allowance. The outdoor games I believe it was 400fps or so.

Can someone please clarify for me? I am currently trying to source/build 2 AEGs one for indoor and one for outdoor and well, I don't want to not only spend more than I need to but also go stupid and be caught with something that won't be allowed in games.

Thanks for your input!

Cheers,
KaOz.

350-ish fps is about right for indoor and for just owning an AEG, outdoor allows more

Whoaa 350fps indoors? In my experience playing indoor games (albeit limited) 300fps is the max I have come across. Of course I haven't played any Indoor games in T.O. Personally anything higher than 300fps indoors is asking for trouble from personal injury and damage to the building. Just my two cents.

Edit.
I just read the TTac3 Rules and 350fps is the max.

TTAC3 is 350 for indoor, with no mercy rules. This works extremely well since only semi-auto is allowed and target discrimination is STRONGLY 'encouraged'. Realcap loadouts help with this. I've taken a hit in the face in an unprotected area. Welt lasted a week. Maybe better protection would have helped. Brian also 'encourages' the operators not to take a shot you wouldn't be prepared to get hit with. In other words, aim low. IT WORKS!

Anyone else able to provide more information?

Personally, I think there should be a strict regulation on this for everyone's safety - as Ex-Royal pointed out... at least for indoor / CQB games. Outdoors, it should be open to roughly 400fps+ as there are various factors that come into play (i.e. wind, rain, snow, etc.)

Cheers,
KaOz.

Some outdoor fields allow 450 fps for bolt actions and semi-auto-only AEGs.

Indoor, TTAC3 and Sgt Splatters are both 350fps max. Outdoor; Wasaga and FR both have 400fps (AEGs) and 450fps (BA), and most other fields follow similar guidelines.

So, would it then be fair to say that ideally it would be good to have two AEGs... one for CQB that is 350fps and another for outdoor games that is 400fps (to be safe?)... ??? Your thoughts?

Wow... 450fps, that is insane - just over a 1/3 of the power from an actual 9mm round.

Cheers,
KaOz.

P.S. I hate the indoor paintball arenas... they are so sticky, gross, you slip and slide everywhere... GRR... just my two cents.

Here are our local FPS rules
Outdoor Events:
- 420 FPS for full auto guns
- 480 FPS for bolt action and semi-only guns

Indoor Events:
- 320 FPS for all guns - Restricted to semi auto as well

While those are the set rules we have very few players reaching the absolute maxes (Save for a few dedicated sniper guns) average is around 350-370ish for outdoors.

Well, these are MAX fps.

For indoor, you don't really NEED 350fps, 275-320fps should be plenty of power since neither of the 2 places in Toronto are that big.

For outdoor, as long as you're careful about mercy distance, 400fps should be fine, but again, these are upper limits. It's not a goal to reach. 450fps on bolt action isn't bad since they can't unload a wad of BBs onto a player, and most snipers don't take battles up that close.

xtreme tactics in manitoba has a 350 fps cap, outdoors is 400fps for full auto, 470fps on semi, all chrono'd on .20g BBs
my UMP shoots 230fps max, and ive never had any problems with accuracy or killing people at range indoors.
