Sten MKII
In a few months I am interested in acquiring machines to start production of an Airsoft (electric) all metal version of the sten mkII, but before that, I would like to see how many people would had interest in purchacing one, even known it is a wwII weapon.

there are significant legal issues regarding production... be aware of that before you start thinking you are going to be making airsoft guns.

Legalities aside (something you should seriously consider as it would be silly going to jail for selling and making toy guns)
I'd be interested if the price was below 600, Ideally in the under 400 range. I've contemplated the feasibility similar projects. Typically submachineguns from the mid-late 40's to the 50's use some pretty simple manufacturing techniques to make their bodies, and potentially could be easy to replicate if given the right tools material and information. Other guns that I've thought about were the Swedish Model K, Beretta M12 and the Sterling. Not to discourage you or anything, but the Sten is a little tight for space, are you sure you'll be able to fit a mechbox in that thing? What about a battery?

As for the sig, my appologies, it was temporary until the age verified status kicks in.
Ofcourse the aeg's will be sold in the appropiate section, as for production, nothing prohibits me of building a non-firing airsoft gun as far as beeing un able to fire ammunition (live roundes or blank). Metternich, that was the kind of suggestion I was interested in. the price a was looking for (the 1st batch atleast was around 550$ canadian). The gune will utilise a custom hop-up similar to an AK-type one. The mags will utilise the internals of the uzi ones but will be built from an original sten 32 round (steel) mag. The gearbox will be base on a v-7 (g&g) style gearbox with the trigger relocated and the fire-selector will probaby have to be custom built (replacement part will be available after for convenience.). And with a liffle 6.04 barrel (can say much about the light for now) the power delivery of the big bore sould compensate a little for the lack of velocity caused by the barrels lenght. I will try to set the weapons firing speed to around 800-900 rpm (as close to the real steel possible). Sue to the lack of space the sten will use Li-po batteries. anymore questions? (sorry for the poor english) |

I would consider changing your choice of airsoft magazine internals to something that is produced by MAG or STAR in cheap plastic form, to help lower the cost of the mags.

Warhead Uzi mags are inexpensive (around $10 US each), and already come in similar dimensions to the Sten's magazines

I really don't think that this would be a cost effective venture.
Metal working machines are expensive, you could probably buy a lathe and mill for pretty decent price, but stamping, bending machines... It would have to be a long production run to justify all the expense. Not to mention the setup times, tolerances, materials, cutters, coolant, assembly, QC... Lots to think about

Not to mention the laws against producing replica weapons in canada....as has already been stated twice in this thread.

The mill and lathe are mostly for hobbies, and building the stens only to help financing them a little. (they arent exactly cheap). My production number would be around 10-15 of them so it will be a small batch. They cannot be converted to fire any live ammunition what so ever. I have informed myself about the legallity of selling the replicas, at the nearest police center, in a legal matter I cannot sell them fully assembled but at least, I can sell the parts. I will only have a firearms production liscence in 8 months as I am soon starting my gunsmithing course and planing to acquire a liscience for the intend of a future business related to the course. I don't where you check that you are aloud to sell replica... NO you can't. And you can't have any licence to sell or produce replica... They are not in the same categories as real firearms. Replicas are prohibited device and such illegal. Do what you want, just to let you know; I had an Airsoft business and got seized, charged and judged. And everything was legit in sense of the law. Just to let you know, in the Quebec province they don't tolerate Airsoft or replica business... Have fun with the court. JF Last edited by Red Tiger; March 5th, 2007 at 15:52.. |
