the production of an RPK airsoft gun

Greets all, I am here to see if I can get as much info on the real steel RPK.
I plan to make a set of three wood kits, but I would like all the other info that people know.

Ie: what barrel is required ( length and suggestion on matts)
what bi pod is commonly used
what wood is commonly used (dementions on the tail stock and forgrip)
what tools do the best job
what flash hider is best



I am currently using a jigsaw and power drill and a couple c clamps

Well actually it doesn't I know about the real steel, but what size is the tail stock, is the gas chamber large on the rpk there by making the forgrip bigger?

Extended length AK barrel. Real steel is 591MM and most airsoft conversions are at least that (Fits PSG length inner).

what bi pod is commonly used

Bipod is specific to the RPK.
Guarder makes a bipod/extension that works well

I have a set of Romanian RPK that I used in a conversion. Made from a very hard wood, not 100% sure what it's made of though. Any hard wood would work just fine

what flash hider is best

There are specific real steel flashiders, but even none (AK barrel nut) is fine as many RPK's in real life are like that.

That Wikipedia article is full of shit. The effective and maximum range is way too high on there. Also, the first pic looks like a video game or photoshop, and the guy is golding an AK-47 with a 75 round drum, not an RPK.

Same advice, feel free to correct the Wiki page, but be sure you have direct experience with the caliber and the particular gun before you do. Reading about it is far from the same as having done it.

You'd be surprised what that caliber can do from a decent rifle with a long barrel.

The over 2000 meter number does not equal any accuracy, but just how far that bullet will go.

isnt "effective range" the range at which the bullet can wound someone? and not the maximum gun at which the gun is accurate?

In this case, I'm not surprised that the caliber in question is still accurate by battlefield standards at 800m and can kill you (if it hits) at over 2000m. It has enough mass.

We're not talking minute of angle here, but it will do the job.

Effective range is the maximum where you would normally expect to use the caliber and hit your target. Maximum range is like I said; aim at 45 degrees and let it rip. Spray and pray.

From a long enough barrel, that caliber can do those numbers. From a regular AK barrel lenght, no.

I believe the numbers from the books I have here were around 400-500m effective, 800/1000m sighted, 1500m lethal, 3000m maximum bullet travel distance...

I have yet to fire some M43 (will in a couple months, from an AKM and a SKS), perhaps Id get a chance to take it out long range...seems like a very decent cartridge, especially considering the fact it was designed in 1943...

I love AKs.

Nothing wrong with that caliber, it's been around for a long time for a good reason.

I have yet to try it in a bolt action rifle, that could be interesting. At least an SKS is about $150 to buy, so anyone into real guns should find it worthwhile to get.

Speaking of which, I would not mind seeing an airsoft SKS.

Agreed on all points. There is a springer shell ejecting SKS, cheap Chinese, and somewhat disproportioned (an SKS-D to be exact, that uses standard AK magazines).

There arent alot of options for a bolt action 7.62x39, but still enough to get some interesting reports. The round has plenty of potential.

I will be picking up an SKS as soon as I get my PAL in the mail. The way I see it - worth every penny, even if it is a Chinese copy.
